There seems so much advertising for detergent pacs, fabric softeners and scent pacs/crystals.  I personally am a Tide Downey or Gain with same softener kind of guy.  I would like to hear your thoughts on these products.  I thought I posted this thread the other day but can not find it to see replies.  Do I need to be looking in another place?

vinegar

I've never liked slimy commercial fabric softeners. Could be because my mama never used them. I do use Borax for smelly loads and it pulls the odor out, so that problem's solved. I switched to doing like the Euros and put some white vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser, and my clothes come out not only smelling great, but softer without being 'slick'.

If there's one thing I've always hated when traveling, it's when hotels use so d*mn much softener on their towels and washcloths that they just slide over the body without really absorbing anything.

Would citric acid provide the same effect? Would it affect the clothes?

I was thinking that a lemony smell is better than a vinegary one...

vinegar

Unless acetic acid is something you hate, as someone else has replied, you don't smell the vinegar at all after the clothing is done.
