Our Wal-Mart has started carrying a bag of detergent called Ariel. Anyone know anything about this? Does it clean well? Smell nice?

Tim

If....

....and it is a big 'IF', it is formulated simmilarly to the Ariel sold in the UK and Europe, it should be a good detergent....

Best thing to do though, would be to try it ;)

ok

I think I'll try some. How will it do in a HE Front Loader? I wonder if it has phosphates and if so, how long it will be allowed to stay on the market in the US?

With a little luck, there will be some instructions on the side of the box....

...failing that, I'm sure someone here can help with dosage details...

Ariel USA

It is most-likely the Ariel USA product. It smells like Mountain Spring Tide and looks like Tide with Bleach once you open the bag. Overall I liked it. We have it as well:

We used to get the real thing at Wal-Mart here in West Texas and then Wal-Mart removed all Mexican detergents, including Ariel, for a while. I just saw it on the shelves the other day again at Wal-Mart, and after carefully reading the ingredients I realized that it had no phosphates. It even specifically stated that it was made in the United States and for the United States.

P&G tried this a few years ago, packaging something they called "Ariel" into a box. The actual powder itself resembled Tide w/ Bleach, but it cleaned very poorly. I suppose it wasn't very popular and soon disappeared. Perhaps they believe that if they put it in a bag and make it look like Mexican Ariel that people will be fooled into buying it?

Fortunately here in the Southwest we have a couple of grocers who still stock the original Mexican products. I found the original Mexican Ariel at Lowe's Supermarket in Lubbock just the other day, along with Foca and Roma and others. And for that I am very thankful!

Saw Foca and Ariel today

I was in a neighborhood latin american grocery getting some spices.

There were at least two different kinds of Ariel, and 1 kind of Foca. They were in bags, $6.99 I think, and I believe made in Mexico.

Might try some later.

Foca Detergent

I purchased a bag of Foca detergent. It smells great. It does say that it has phosphates in it. I hope it cleans well. How much should I use in a HE/FL machine? ( I was thinking maybe 2 TBS. Is that enough?)

Foca

I have done two loads using the Foca today. One load I used 2 TBS. of detergent. No sudsing, but the clothes were very clean. The second load I used 4 tbs. I saw a few suds at first, but then they diminished. The clothes were equally clean. If anyone uses this in their HE/FL, let me know how much you use.
