after looking at some of the other threads thought i would put my 2penuth in. Liquids do nothing for me where whites are concerned due to no bleach. I love Persil colour liquid on any colours except lights. And persil silk and wool on all jumpers and wool cycle items. Whites have to be white for me. I can take or leave tablets depending on the soil and i dont think ariel can beat a good 95.c wash with persil powder. Lights on 60.c. If they can take it. performance or non bio. I find washing t towels and dishcloths at tempsatures lower than 60 repulsive. My ex mother in law washed whites in her philco at 40 with fairy liquidtabs and her work shirts were mingin. The dishcloth was dark grey. She changed to ariel non bio and they got worse. Tablets i find dont wash like powder. They are just full of fillers. One of the reasons i hate ariel is that why would a company who always said ariel is the best make ace? Persil dont have sideline productions of stain removess etc so they have ultimate faith in their products. Perfect company ethos i think. I have been looking at ecover and filleti but i wont settle for anything less than perfect which persil offers. I always wash fabrics on appropriate wash actions but choose my own temp. Like synthetics at 60 for light t shirts white synthetics etc 40 cotton for jeans underwear socks col towels. 95 for pure whites that will take it. 40 synthetics for colour t shirts work trousers. And occasionally 40 wool for odd jumpers. Liquids take up to much shelf space and they may do well at first but use them for ages and whites suffer. And in the 10 years been doing my own washing i never ever used detergent additive with persil.

Hi all

I use persil biological liquid and for me i find it offers good cleaning and a nice perfume once the clothes are dry. I treat pain stains with shout though since i only seem to use the 60 quick wash.

I use ariel non biological liquid tabs for my whites because it makes them glow / sparkle after a 95 c wash.

Woolite for wools and as conditioner goes its either yellow concentrated lenor or original blue comfort.

Well i have to agree with aquarius that whites in order to be white should be washed at at least 60c. However personally i wash white cotton and kitchen towels at 75c or 80c in my navitronic ALWAYS using a prewash. From my experience in order to keep white stuff white for a long time the key is to prewash before main wash. This is because if u go straight to main wash at high temp, yes you get clean stain free clothes but after many washes they become dingy because the dirt is baked into the fibers since wash water contains high concentration of soil ie dust . The prewash is needed to take away ecxess soil (my miele spins as well after prewash) and then optical brighteners work in the boil wash for better long lasting whiteness. However i disagree with aquarius that uk persil bio washes whiter than Ariel powder. In my opinion uk persil non bio tablets which i mash an put in the detergent drawer for pre and main wash alongside with some calgon tabs and blue Comfort give far whiter results than persil bio. However the bluing effect contained in procter and gamble products ie Ariel and Daz give whiter whites. And if u use high temps the bluing is much lighter than at low temps.
Try to wash a white cotton and a poly cotton load at 40c using ariel and wash the same load alongside calgon tabs or dylons whitener tabs at 70c and u will be thrilled by the results. Of course for white loads i use only blue or yellow or white fabric softeners(my favorite is double dose of original concentraded comfort)and avoid pink or silky or lavender products since they tend to affect brightnes negatively.
On coulored loads i prefer liguid gel ie persil or Dixan (German persil ) which leave cloths softer and colours brighter.

persil non bio does contain extra bleach to bio i agree it may whiten better but imo they work just as well. I stopped using pre wash when i gave up chefing as house hold whites dont really need it. I have a dishwasher so t towels hardly get used much anyway. I also agree about the dust etc in the fabrics but i feel i combat that with always using high rinse water level or extra rinses depending on the machine. To dilute it down. No way is ariel as good as persil and they do use blue as a illusion whereas persil i feel does the job right. Its funny you should say about whites looking blue. I gave an extra work jacket to a colleague once that i didnt need and she asked what powder i used as when she put it next to her white shirt she said it glowed with a blue tinge. I replied always persil at 95.c. This rocked the boat as she uses daz in her hoover 6 interactive. And her whites really did look dingy. But also i also use comfort conc usually easy iron which is dark blue. Best smell i think. as i like to double dose and you can fit more in the dispenser this way so maybe this also had something to do with the colour. But i know my whites are the best.

And UK Ariel has that funky musty/sweet scent that lingers after drying. Yukky!

Did they changed the formulation of both non bio and bio poweders? Here we still get the old stuff.Do they both have blue bits in it?

The non bio Persil is still the same as it always has been... however the bio formulation has been tweaked about 3 times since this time last year. First batch of it smelt a bit, well, mildewy. They gave it a new scent last September or so, a fresher sort of smell so it now doesn't smell manky, and just recently they've added little coloured specks to Persil though the performance and smell is exactly the same as the previous incarnation.

Mike was talking about Ariel though... the bio Ariel was reformulated a year or so ago and it smells different (nicer actually), has big blue bits, and cleans great... in my opinion I think both Ariel and Persil powders clean about the same, and it's just brand preference more than anything...

Personally I've been using Aquados capsules recently, as well as Filetti. However I still have umpteen boxes of other detergents to get through (Bold, Ariel liquids (both bio and colour), Persil Colour etc) so I'll probably use them up before I buy anymore new detergent. But I have to say if I had to stick to one brand for cleaning, then it'll be Persil and Ariel at a draw. Softener wise though I've found my ideal one and that's Ecover - softens brilliantly, doesn't leave a waxy residue like Comfort can, and most of all just smells fresh and has a subtle smell unlike most other softeners available today. Plus it's less irritating to skin, which is always a bonus whether you have sensitive skin or not.

Jon thanks on the ifo about persil. After the discussion we had yesterday about persi i rushed today to the local supermarket got some persil bio and run a 95c just whites adding some easy iron comfort. However we still get the old formulation without the bits, it smelled great but i would say that although its not as foamy as ariel the second high level rinse (up to the the half of the door) in my miele was more cloudy rather than with ariel. However here on the island the variant of ariel we get is different from uk. We only get the ariel AUTOMAT in plastic bags. Better smell and less blue bits in it. Scent is stronger more like Lenor white i would say.
The results were briliant as well with persi(more on the yellow side), however after tumble drying towels felt more harsh rather with ariel, dont know why!
I cant wait to try out those persil liquid tabs!

Jon thanks on the info about persil bio. After last night talk i rushed to the local supermarket and got some persil bio.We still get the stuff without bits here. I run a 95c boilwash adding some comfort easy iron. Well although the main wash was less sudsy rather Ariel the second high level rinse in my miele(up to half of the door) was more cloudy rather ariel. However the Ariel we get here is different from uk. Its called ariel AUTOMAT and has less blue bits and scent is more like lenor white. Its meant to be for poland russia and chech republic.
The results were brilliant more on the yellow rather than blue(that is if u get a whit cloth crease it and put it next to the window)but after tuble druing towels were more harsh.
i cant wait to try out those liquitabs when they get here!

Ariel Automat

Ariel Automat has just become available over here in the cheaper stores such as Home Bargains and NISA Gillens.

When staying with me in April Lavamat_Jon bought a 3g bag of ariel automat, he wasn't impressed from what he told me. I will have to buy a bag and give it a try, although my mum has temporarily banned me from buying laundry detergent, due to the kitchen units overflowing with various types.

I recently bought a detergent called "Tide Automat" it has the proper tide logo on it, and it cleans whites brilliantly, I think it was imported from Romania but I could be wrong.

The picture below is very similar to what I bought although I only bought a 600g box.

Just Thought I'd have my input.

Jon if im wrong about you disliking the Ariel Automat, please say so, I got the impression you didn't like it from a certain incident in early August . LOL
