I have a I think 1937ish Dexter/Philco twin tub washer, it has 2 tubs, and a piece the swings over the tops, I do not know what it is worth or what to do with it. I am in The Detroit area, any help is appreciated, thanks.

Your machine is very similar to mine, except it must have a pump for recirculation to a lint filter (?) and to drain the machine when finished. I believe that your machine is a late 1950's model, since it is a Philco / Dexter. I believe Philco obtained the Dexter Twin Tub line in the mid to late 50's.

For comparison, I paid $100 for mine in November 2008, and believe it was manufactured between 1959 and 1962.

Thats quite the machines you have there! They are huge! Really unique looking. Love the color combo. Looks like it weighs a half ton though!

The styling and colors are definitely screaming 1950s!

Thanks

So where can I sell it? I will sell it for $65.00. I put it on craigslist, but no emails about it yet. Thanks for the help!

I'm Curious...

How does one find out about AW.Org ?

Google ???

Hi Candace. I've seen this before as people have old machines and want to sell them or find out if they are of interest to anyone, How did you here about this site ? Thanks, Eddie

Some one here might buy it, Candace

Mike, I didn't know you had one of these beasts. They're a lot of fun. Had one for a few years. Watching them agitate together is a real treat.

That can't be a lint filter, too wide between the slits. But hey, what do I know. Odder things have shown up here. Thinking it's a personal thing, user-installed, for buttons, coins, a bar of soap to pre-treat , maybe?

Candace, do you have the story on this old girl? In Detroit, you're in the geographic middle of many washer men here. I wish you luck.

Michael, It was a long shot, but I agree with you, that white plastic basket must have a different purpose.

The Philco Dexter was one of my first washer acquisitions. My mom had an earlier version, likely 1952 or 1953. (I have posted about it before, but I am attaching a photo grouping of both her machine and mine.) Top right is me at age 14 months. Below right is me (age 3 1/2) with my sister (age 2 1/2). Below left is a scanned image of a post cart that I bought on ebay.

Twins in the twin tubs....

What a bunch of cuties, you, your sister and the machines

The older agitators are striking, better than the later ones, and prettier coloring.

Thanks, Mike.

PS: Look at how happy you are standing in the washer. That's awesome.

You are right Michael. I do look happy. I was so enthralled with washing machines as a kid, that Santa Claus brought me a toy wringer washer to play with. I don't have any memories of playing with it though, nor do I know what ever happened to it.

Yes, the agitators in my Mom's machine were aluminum.

Eddie: Hopefully, there are kids out there that are having fun playing in, and around washing machines just like we did as kids. Play safe kids!

I did find this site through google! I was trying to look up any info on the washer, and google sent me to you all. My boyfriend wants to put this washer in the scrap pile, I sure hope someone wants to buy it soon!

when the consumer was royalty!!!

I have always been facinated by the art of all things 50s. in the usa it seemed as though our manufacturers used crwons and imperial logos on our machines to let us know the american consumer was royalty so to speak. as an artist and old drycleaner I have always been enamored with the designs of the 50s machines. the crown logo on the front of the dexter quick twin has too be the most gorgeous washer logo I have seen to date, lets not forget the magnificent pink tubs! I can remember many years ago when I was doing drycleaning, the logo for the old detrex machines always featured a crown as its moniker. thanks Bill the drycleaner
