If you use crushed ice often, this is the real deal. It's faster, quieter and easier (nothing to clean up) than using a blender. This one's a Waring and I got it on sale for $75 if memory serves me correctly.

Once you have quick access to crushed ice, you'll use it more often than you think. I use it to keep bowls of salad & meat/cheese platters cold on the buffet line all the time.

And there's nothing better than a Coke® on crushed ice with a slice of lemon...

Since getting my new KA fridge

One thing I started doing was constantly using the crushed ice.

For water, I pour in a little crushed ice, then add water, then top it off with more ice.

Not only do you get the frosty ice bits on the edge of the glass, but then the water flows again through the top ice making it even colder!

I totally agree with Frigilux. Standard ice cubes are no longer acceptable!

My nice big 25 cu. ft. GE makes great crushed ice. I like it because if I want to add more ice to a glass of tea, it does not make big splashes like cubes would. When I make hard cooked eggs, I hold the pan under the cold faucet until it is cool, then drain off the water and fill the pan with crushed ice and put it in the frigidator. The eggs cool very fast and the ice stays frozen up to 3 days. I use it to keep potato salad and cole slaw cold like you do Gene. I have the Oster ice crusher for my blender and a cute little Westinghouse ice crusher with a drawer, but I have not ever used it. I like all of those powerful crashing and crushing noises as the ice comes flying out the tube in the freezer door. And, since I read that cold drinks make the body burn calories to warm back up, I like ice even more.

Speaking of ice crushers I found a super junk yard/store yesterday in a small town not far from here and picked up an old Rival ice crusher..it's somewhat larger than an electric can opener, from the 50's or 60's, works like a charm and quiet to boot. Along with that I got yet another GE toaster oven, the flair type in great condition. He has lots of neat junk, quite a few old Sunbeam/Dormeyer/Westy mixmasters, hot plates, waffle irons etc all in various states of condition from good to awful but at least parts worthy. Why there was even a Maytag center dial washer sitting outside..not sure the model though, I'll have to go back and look closer when I have more time.
