Ding Dong the Hotpoint's dead!

Well it finally happened, my Hotpoint WD440 died. As you may have guessed I have not mourned the death of this tinny piece of junk. If fact I think it new I had started to really hate it and ended its own life. Unfortunately we were very strapped for cash so the hunt started for a cheap machine to do us until we could afford a decent one. I ended up getting a Baumatic BFW1000W for £130 at the BIG W. I have had it for 3 weeks and am so impressed. Its quiet,well built ( compared to the hotpoint ) washes very well.....ok it only spins at 1000rpm but that makes ironing easier!! But for £130 I can't complain.

The wash rythmn is great, slow tumble graduating to distibution and back to normal tumble. This happens for about 10 mins on most of the programmes. When I have time I will post some pics on here and a vid on youtube. The machine can be found in the " discontinued lines " section of baumatics web site.

And what a bargain!

I just got a Hotpoint WT761 in May this year, im onto the second machine, the first one went bang on the installation cycle! this second machine has had 2 minor repairs, but im happy with it now! Only thing that bugs me from time to time, is that its fussy when balanccing to spin. It coped marvelously this past weekend 12 loads on sunday, and just went and went and went!

P.S what are the rinses like? High level?

Hi washboy. The rinse levels for the cotton wash comes just about to the door seal, slightly higher on the synthetics. Delicates has a high wash and rinse water level, doing 4 rinses but no intermediate spin. Has a great range of special programmes:

cotton/synthetic which lets you was 5kg of mixed fabrics at 40 deg

Baby clothes which washes at 50 deg

sports/jeans wash which washes at 40 deg

curtains, high level wash at 30 deg

Hope all goes well with your hotpoint, just be careful if you have to move it, the cabinet dented on mine, and that was just repositioning it after we had new flooring put down.

I know; I keep waiting for them to come up with that 30,000 RPM spin. At the end of the cycle, the clothes are completely dry, but you have to pull them back through the tub perforations.

Congratulations on your new purchase, seems you've landed yourself a nice tide-you-over machine until you can afford a nice shiney feature packed model! Sorry to hear you hate your hotpoint. I've had a WT960G And im amazingly happy with it! Dare i ask what horrors you've encountered with it!?!

H Darren, my main problems with the Hotpoint were the build quality and how noisy it was. I would like to think it was just a dud machine, as I know people that have newer hotpoints and are happy with them.

BTW, I forgot to mention that the Baumatic is hot and cold fill, which is a bonus for me as my hot water and heating come from a centralised boiler which means I only pay a small service charge each month instead of having heating bills.

PRM is only part of the story. G-force is also determined by the size if the cylinder.

Bigger cylinders can spin slower to produce the same g-force as smaller ones spinning faster.

This movie is rated "G"
Our washing machines are rated for washing performance A-G. The small amount of American Top Loaders available in the UK are rated G for wash performance.
I personally am looking for a TL Whirlpool or Amana purely for the capacity and short wash times but will still keep my AEG FL for any tricky or specialist loads I may have.
I would love some advice on what american TL's to go for if you have the time!

Hi Peter, my aunty has a whirlpool TL and it washes very well. The only reason I can think that they are "G" rated is that the ratings are based on a 60 deg cotton wash, as the american machines don't have internal heaters they water would have to be hotter than 60deg to compensate for the water cooling slightly as the machine filled.
