Was watching this weeks "Dirty Jobs" and Mike goes to a business where they use dirt to dye the shirts. The show repeats so if you like the clip, catch the whole episode. They did have a little more on the machines.

I watched this episode last night
They said they go through about eight machines a year. That actually speaks pretty well for the DD Whirlpools, considering the abuse they go through.
The owner of the company said that most of the machines die becasue they get water in the electrical parts.

If Whirlpool
designed the electrical safety system properly, it would be impossible to get water into the parts. You can't get VDE without your laundry appliance being run under a shower.
Otherwise, yes, I agree - GE washers would not make it one week.
