For those of you who feel that Energy Star dishwashers can't do a good job washing dishes, I have this to show you:

The bottom rack- That big red bowl had a glass under it, and that large white bowl on the right side had a little glass bowl under it. Yes, it all came clean.

One cycle later, I came back to it to find a dishwasher full of clean dishes! Only thing left was a single grain of rice that managed to avoid coming off a plate, because it was blocked by a bowl.

A PowerClean dishwasher is in a totally different league all its own than the current Tall Tub dishwashers. Your dishwasher was the last of the old-design machines. So, not a fair comparison to today's energy star dishwashers.

This is true. What I don't get is that when we bought this (it's only about 3 weeks old), the other dishwashers we looked at used the about the same amount of energy, based of the yellow tags on them, yet the PowerClean is reputed to do a much better job. I have no experience with the newer design tall tub dishwashers, but this one certainly does a good job. It has nylon racks, 5 cycles, and 3 options.

You got one of the absolute last

Whirlpool ceassed production of these last February. It's a much more powerful motor. People want quiet dishwasher, thus tall tubs and quiet, small motors, ...

The thing is, this isn't a very loud dishwasher. You can definitely tell when it is running, and it is louder than the 12 year old Asko it replaced, but we don't have to turn up the volume on the TV in the next room if it is running.

I thought that Whirlpool was going to continue to produce PowerClean dishwashers for Sears under the Kenmore label, though. If that isn't the case, I'm glad we got one of these while we still could.

They are one of the best dishwasher's and will last a long time. You can't compare that Power-clean to anything really save for the new Viking when it comes to motor power the Viking has a 3Phase 1/2 H.P. and yours has a 1/3.H.P. motor. These new dishwasher's are well kinda sad when it comes to power but some wash pretty good if you know how to use it..I had one of those you have and it was great till I broke it,I now have a G.E. Monogram and it washes great once I learned how to use it.I would dump whole plates full of food in my Kenmore Powerclean and it would grind it up and they would be spotless.Hang on to it that's the last real old school dishwasher.
