I'm pretty sure it's a magnetic panel like this.  It just sticks on the front of the dishwasher...but it won't stick to aluminum.

Magnetic overlay for dishwasher panels

You would be able to install this on your older KitchenAid dishwasher, there are two removable aluminum panels with a piece of corrugated cardboard as a spacer that are easily removed with a magnetic galvanize steel panel behind that.

The problem may be that this new panel is not thick enough to properly space itself into the trim on your dishwasher your dishwasher is designed for panels that are 1/4 inch thick.

You might want to glue this new magnetic panel to one of your removable panels you will also have to cut this new panel because your dishwasher has a two piece front panel but you could make it work it would look cool .

I thought...

...he was going to remove the control panel and I couldn't understand how. I guess if you like that look, go for it.

Thank you John. I love the dishwasher.

Yes, I have a small sample and it fits under the trim without removing anything so maybe some adhesive on the backing. I just wanted something other than then black panel.
