Dishwasher water starved need help/advice

My G.E. Monogram is being water starved I think.Our water pressure is VERY VERY high and we had have a reducer installed years ago.My dishwasher is not getting enough water cause I have always heard some cavitation in it but G.E.s have always done that.I did a test Sunday I loaded it and set it like we always have to, the longest wash there is.Today I loaded it full and set it on light wash/add heat and when it went in the main wash I added a half gallon of water to it and they came out cleaner than they ever have.The tops of the glass were clean no food or anything.Is there anyway to fix this I have called the plumber and he said the reducer is turned as high as it goes.I have a manual and it shows pics of where the water is supposed to be and well it falls short.Anybody have any ideas?

Wes, you should know better than to ask that question!! Honestly, I think you know already that it is not the water reducer's problem unless you are experiencing low pressure in other areas of the house.
I would suggest that you take the fill valve apart and clean the line strainer inside of it and see if that does not clear up your problem. You may find all sorts of stuff that could have gotten caught in there, especially if any plumbing work was done like adding the Pressure Reducing Valve or any other work that disturbed the water flow to the hot water heater.

Also, most if not all valves on appliances will operate within a range of 20-120 PSI so if your pressure is in that range, the metering disc in the fill valve will compensate for the pressure and deliver the proper amount of water if the strainer is clean.

The water pressure reducer was installed years ago and the dishwasher maybe is a year old that is it.I hate having that thing on there but we were replacing faucets and water valves all the time before that.I don't know what to do but the washing is not good but you add that half gallon of water and washes fine.

like you mention.. the addition of a half gallon of water helps immensely. I still say to check the inlet screen but another item to check is the water level float switch. Maybe it is out of adjustment and shutting down too soon as the machine fills. Let it fill up on the timed fill as normally it would do and see where the water comes up to. If it opened the switch's circuit(indicating and overfill)at that level, then it needs to be adjusted or repaired. If you add the extra water and then hear the switch close, then I would say the fill valve is at fault.

For the record, what do you have the PRV set at? and they are known to stop performing properly especially if your water is very hard or mineral laden.
Also, hopefully, the original plumber installed a brass unit and not a cast iron unit because the brass will tolerate less than favorable water conditions better.

I second checking the float. Lots of stuff gets in there and can causue it to not operate smoothly.

you should replace the whole dishwasher with a standard Whirlmore one, with the powerfilter pump in it- I never liked the GE units anyway......

Funny. I had the opposite reaction. I had Ge's for years, bought a Whirlpool and had to eat the restocking fee since I HATED it so much. To each his own...

Agreeing with MattL

In May of last year we got the top-of-the-line GE Profile with integrated controls and one-month detergent tank and never looked back. SmartDispense on purchase looked like a gimmick but appears to ration detergent well. We never have a problem with this dishwasher.

...it would be interesting to see just which brand is more popular - I agree each to his own- but which one? Whirlpool, or GE? I also liked the post that mentioned Admiralpool-ha ha!
