I finally listened to a track of hers from YouTube, and frankly, to me, she seems like a less talented Kristine W.

If you are a fan, I truly mean no disrespect about you liking her, I just am wondering what the fuss is about.

what track did you hear, if I may be so bold

Just curious. I love "Poker Face" and can never get enough of it. I can't think of anything she does I dislike really, but that's my favorite. To me it's just kind of airy club/dance music, which I like for what it is. I don't really look for any deep meaning in any of it but it's fun to dance to.

Lady Gaga and Dale Bozzio

Many people who were and still are hard core 80's fans, have compared Lady Gaga to Dale Bozzio from the band Missing Persons. I personally like them both. But yeah, I think Lady may have had some inspiration from Dale as far as her look and sound. But hey, you gotta start somewhere right?

Dale is the lead singer I'm guessing? I love that little "squeak" think she does with her voice. They are a fun band!

I have her album. I love the first bunch of songs on it (Just Dance, Lovegame, Paparazzi, Poker Face, I Like It Rough, Eh Eh) but after that, it's pretty naff. I love her image and how outrageous she is though.

My '80s were a very different experience. Played in bands, disliked most dance/disco music, especially the Top 40 stuff of the era.

My '80s consisted of: Echo & The Bunnymen, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Wire, The Cure, New Order (first of several exceptions to the dance music rule), Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, The Church, Japan, The Fall, The Go-Betweens, Husker Du, The Jesus & Mary Chain, John Foxx, The Smiths, Prefab Sprout, The Psychedelic Furs, PiL, The Replacements, Simple Minds, Soft Cell, Sparks, Squeeze, Swans, Talking Heads, Throbbing Gristle, Throwing Muses, The The, The Undertones, The Violent Femmes, XTC...

Oh, the 80's; I was in my twenties, skinny, and had hair; badly butchered punk hair, but hair none-the-less. And awesome weed. Always.

So, no, don't care much for Lady Gaga's music, although she does have a brilliant sense of creating an aura about her---always looks stunningly eye-catching.

One of my favorite current bands is Grizzly Bear. Find their video for "Two Weeks" on YouTube. The original one is weirdly slowed down, and their heads gradually spew fireworks; another director recently made a new one for the same song featuring an animated same-sex couple, but I haven't seen it.

Eugene I am very familiar with many of the bands you mention! I've always been pretty all over the place with music and I'm glad it's worked out that way. You get exposed to a lot!

I tried -

I tried to not like her but then I gave in.
I watched a vid on youtube where she was doing a live performance of poker face. She started out with just her and a piano and she played and sang a cool short rendition of the song slowed down and burlesque style. I am a long time musician and immediately appreciated that performance for the creative musicianship. She also does a lot of her song writing which I admire as well and she performed live on the burlesque scene in NYC for years and you have to be a true performer at heart to do that.
