do you know what brand all of your "stuff" is?

It always amazes me when I talk to someone and they don't even know what brand their car or vacuum cleaner is! I don't get it! I know what brand everything I own is (of course by everything I mean everything that can be turned on... gadgets and appliances). The first thing I do when I go to someone's house is look at their kitchen appliances. I just make a mental note of brands and features (water/ice in the door, touch pad or push button controls, over the range microwave or free standing, stainless steel dishwasher or plastic, flat top range or coils)... stuff like that. It's not that I'm being judgemental, I just am really intrigued by it!

Of course if it's someone I'm meeting to become friends with, I will ask to see their vacuum cleaner if we haven't discussed it already.

So, what about you? Do you know what brand your applainces/things are without looking?

Same here, I know everything about everything in the house and my partner knows squat. He honestly would have no clue what make any of our appliances are, not a one.

I can relate to that!

I sometimes like confuse my partner when he asks me which dishwasher we are using and I throw out a model name (like 'the Mobile Maid') instead of the brand name. Evil? Moi???

I am amazed almost daily at the number of men/women who don't know if their STOVE is gas or electric, not to mention their dryer. Once they filmed a commercial in my store, and they had to fill an empty display slot for an over-the-range microwave. They put in an exact duplicate of the one next to it. Same finish, same brand, same sign. More than once I was asked "what's the difference between these two?" Fed up, I'd say "one is gas, the other electric". "Oh".

When I worked in Sears part-time selling appliances, many customers do not know:

1- Gas or electric?
2- Physical size of space or unit is...?
3- If electric, plug-in or hard-wire?
4- If electric and plug-in, three or four prongs (pins)?

Most are also appalled at the cost of a licensed plumber to come out and connect a gas appliance. "No the truck driver MAY NOT connect, under any circumstances, by law."

When I hear: "I want to convert to electric" especially when preceded by my "schpeal" that the gas dryer is $50 more to buy". Then one has to say/ask "The electic verison needs a very heavy-duty dedicated line. Do you have one?" they somehow never know.

Also, NO CLUE that an electric dryer here will triple their energy costs for that appliance. Once that is stated, the $50 is not an issue.

You have to wonder about the (lack of) thought processs.

As a kid, I knew the brands of all of my parents' friends appliances. In those days dishwashers (especially portables) were the most fun, in that they could be watched openly, right in front of the family and you still appeared to be social (i.e. not sneaking into the laundry room to peek).

Probably doesn't help that I prepend "The Mighty" to everything:

Typical conversation goes like this:
Me: "Time to run The Mighty 2800?"
Keith: "No, it's time to run the dishwasher."
Me: "You mean 'The Mighty 2800'."
Keith: "No, I mean 'the dishwasher'."
Me: "It's not a dishwasher. It's 'The Mighty 2800'."
Keith: "Whatever."
Me: "Say it. Say 'The Mighty 2800'."
Keith: "No."
Me: "Come on, you can do it. Say 'It's time to run The Mighty 2800'."

That's when the tickling starts.

Oh yeah, it's just like The Algonquin Round Table around our house...
