that is actually not an automatic

It is a semi-automatic, it has the ABC dasher but in a square set tub. Behind that is a rinsing tub and you rolled out the clothes from the wash side onto a roller that featured direct rinsing , it squeezed the clothes and the rollers flushed fresh rinse water through the clothes too as it squeezed them.

They are rare as they filled a small gap ( maybe a year) Between ABC spinners and the Automatics. I had a bead on one in Chicago once but it fell through.

Rinsing Wringer is what it is.

Here is one we saw in California last winter. In rough shape but you can see some of the highlights.

There is a double wringer set in the top - feed the clothes in one end, the first wringer squeezes out the wash water, then water sprays the clothes before they run through the second wringer rolls and out the other end, washing is done.

It was next to impossible to see the second wringer and rinsing sprayer, we didn't know how to open the top. There must have been a way, to clear the inevitable jams and mis-feeds. Like a copier but for clothes.

Yes, Martin, that is Dick's ABC machine - saw it in March when Fred N. and I were in Palm Springs. We took a drive up to see Dick and his collection - including that Flair and his beautiful Philco refrigerator. The highlight of the day was going to lunch and for a drive in his 1960 Chevy, what a fun day and a great host.
