HI all, I just bought a bar for 75 cents of Zote soap made in Mexico. Has anyone tried this? I thought I could shave some of the soap into the washing machine and try a load. It says that here is a minimum of fatty acid content by 66%. Thanks for your help. Gary

Hi Gary ... I don't know too much about it, but I bought a couple of bars a while back, too. I tried using it in one of my wringer washers with pretty good results. I softened the water before use and grated about an 1/8 of a bar. You can certainly tell there is something different about it (more fatty acid perhaps?) because it is softer milled than Fels. Fels grates really well; this just kind of "smushes".
As always, you have to rinse, rinse, rinse with soap to get it all out. This soap (as does Fels) rinses really well (at least for me).
I've also tried it for pre-spotting and it worked great.
The citronella-type fragrance is a little different for me but I liked it after it was rinsed. Fels' fragrance is rather strong to me but softens when you rinse.
You can sure feel the softness in your clothes after washing with soap.
Try it ... you might like it!!

I have used this before. I got a case oof it. I found a trick open the bar and let it set out. It will dry out and you can save it.
Works good and cheap. Use hot water also helps out. I used it in my front loader not much suds and the stuff was super clean.
Did you order the pink bar? To my it smells like ivory soap.

Like most every thing else laundry detergent wise out of Mexico, Zote contains STPP, hence the cleaning power.
If one is not into noodling, and catches catfish with a line, word is Zote makes great bait.

Thanks guys for the info. I bought the pink bar and yes, it does smell like Ivory. I have soft water so I think this will be ok. I'll set it out so it can dry a bit before i try it. The white bar had a different smell to it but didn't say anything about using it for the entire laundry, just for baby

At least it's not listed on the label of the pink bar I have.
It says of itself: "Ingredients: Sodium tallowate, sodium cocoate, fragance [sic], optical brightener and dye."

We used the pink Zote for many years as hand washing, camping etc. It is soft and can be cut in to 4 bars. I have even used it in the shower. I used to grate it and use it in our top load Maytag. It seemed to rinse out of clothing and leave a nice light fragrance especially in laundry hung outside to dry. Since moving back to Nevada I haven't tried it because the water is harder than in Oregon. I might get some and give it a go here. Have a good weekend

Am going to have another look when down at K-Sears on this matter. Could have sworn the first time one spotted Zote soap there, it listed STPP. Maybe it was another soap, though don't think K-Sears has another Mexican laundry soap besides Zote. Or, perhaps the formula was changed for sales in the United States. Lord knows even where one cannot find other Mexican detergents, Zote can be had.

I've been washing my clothes with Zote for the past couple of years, and love the stuff. I roll my own laundry soap powder. One large bar of pink Zote, grated. 1 1/2 cups each of borax and washing soda. Low sudsing in my front loader and cleans very well. I add Sun brand Oxy Wash to whites. Really liked the white bar, but no one sells it here any more. Never saw the blue bar. If you want it to grate like Fels, unwrap the bar and let it age. It will get harder.

I've seen white Lirio soap bars... not sure if I've seen the white Zote. I'll look the next time I'm in a market.
