Doesn't this belong in the Science Museum? 50yr old tumble dryer!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi Richard.

That's my machine. Unfortunately the story that I gave them, and what actually got printed differs somewhat, but here is a previous thread of mine, a bit further down the page.
They are almost right about the Science Museum, with an earlier model indeed being an exhibit!

:edit: Just got the hang of the URL link thing. Sorry for being slow on the uptake with my previous threads!

Beautiful dryer; would love to see the controls

Some of us have dryers from the early 1950s, closing in on 60 years of age, that still dry laundry beautifully and very quietly.

Doug, some of us have shared the experience of telling an interviewer one thing and having it come out quite differently in print. I guess some of them don't think the vintage appliance is exciting enough so they have to embellish a bit and really, how can they know the thrill of acquiring something you remember from childhood? How can they know the impression these machines made on our young minds when we saw them and were either pulled away or hurried along while looking back and wanting to explore? Then to find one still "alive" and to be able to give it a home and not have bossy people tell you you can't touch it or open the door or operate it; it's just better than almost anything.

Ok

My Dad bought my Mom a Sears Kenmore Dryer in 1967 for $99.00 in protest to my Mom's request for a clothes line. It is still in the house working and has only 1 repair in 44 years.

old old dryer!

This is an older photo, but this dryer gave the best results... it was set to 110 and took two hours to dry but boy those towels were fluffy!!

Bendix Tumble Dry Deluxe

Nan had one of these, quite efficient and worked with the door open in latter years, the latch got stuck in the hole! It needed tape to keep it closed because if it wasn't taped, the door would keep opening!

No photo but it was brown orande and cream.
