In that household glad the DOG is more concerned about the child's safety over the parents. How the incident happened is not fully clear-did the child climb inside the dryer himself-or,did someone put him in the dryer? The story is poorly written. So glad the dog saved the boys life.

It may be possible that the dog was just smarter than the parents.

"It's just the way Riley is, he tends to take himself off and find a wee corner if he wants to get away from it all. Yesterday, he decided the tumble dryer was where he wanted to go."

In the early years of clothes dryers there were some with latches where you actually had a bolt or latch arm that extended from the door and latched into the cabinet. They were known as "child killers" because, unlike with the bayonet closure or the the magnetic closure, they could not be opened from the inside. The idea of a lock on a dryer door is a bad one. Even if the door could be locked when not in use, I would not trust harried parents or trouble-making kids not to find a way to make it a dangerous situation.
