Popped into the local dollar store, only to be surprised to see imported laundry detergent.

They have Ariel 250g for a $1. & Tide 260g with lemon for a $1.

that

Is not ariel usa...does it have phosphates? ? The tide I have is from china but I haven't figured out if its the real deal or counterfeit I also payed 1buck a bag but I found it at a indoor flea market it does smell lemony. Cool find Cheryl

Benny:

Whether phosphates are good depends on your point of view. Phosphates were originally added in improve the cleaning ability of the soap/detergent but were found to damage the water supply and so the US (and other western) governments have ordered its removal.

Well I just tried the Ariel, did one oz. for a small sized load, and got Suds city. I mean like more suds than i've seen in a long time. So don't buy it for your He machine. It does seem to be very good soap.

Just did a medium sized load with the Tide/Lemon, and it appears to be He detergent, as with one oz., I got almost no suds. Running two oz. of detergent got normal suds for a He detergent.

Cleaned very well, as good as tide with bleach or the new Persil ProClean powers.

I have both but

I can not read the language on the ariel...the tide from china has a American sticker on it that says *contains no phosphates*....ingredients say...HE Whitening Particle, LAS, AEO-9, Buffer &perfume, anionic & nonionic surfactants..it is a 260g size bag I have 5 of them. Stan do you want to try a bag?

Ben..is that ariel blue with green and red flakes in it with that bittersweet scent? I would imagine it would suds up a lot in a HE as it does in my standard but it rinses very clean for me its amoung my favorates.

After seeing last weeks 20/20 on counterfeit goods, I'd seriously doubt anything from China or anywhere else is the real thing. If you frequent Dollar stores you never know what you are getting. It may be real it may not be.

Drugs, airbags for cars you name it , if the price seems too good to be true odds are its not the real thing.

Ben

That bag of ariel and the content looks exactly like what I buy at the Mexican grocer. I don't know if it has phos there's nothing on the bag saying it does or doesn't it does list water softener in the ingredients so it could be in there. I know it cleans very good and the heavy bittersweet scent virtually gone after the clothes dry leaving a fresh clean scent. Like I said its one of my favorites.

Matt the tide from China does have P&G printed on the package..which I know I know means nothing...I think I seen a post somewhere here about this detergent but I can't remember what was said..I'll try to find it again. Cheryl
