I had a really frustrating day and thought that everything I touched was going to go to hell... I figured a batch of cookies would be a nice pick-me-up and I found this recipe in the 1940s edition of "The New Art Of Modern Cooking" published by the folks at the Canadian General Electric company.

The recipe was simply titled 'Drop Cookies'; verbatim the ingredients are:

1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup shredded coconut
1/2 cup walnuts
1 cup uncooked rolled oats
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour, using 1/2 cup of it to flour dates
1 teaspoon soda
1 pound dates, cut up

1 - Mix all ingredients together, drop on baking sheet from teaspoon.
2 - Bake 12 minutes at 350 degrees. Keep in cookie jar.

Well, I made them this way:
- Cut up dates and place in small bowl. Toss with 1/2 cup flour
- Cream butter in large bowl at medium speed on mixer; add brown sugar gradually and cream until light and fluffy
- Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla.
- Stir in 1 1/2 cups flour and soda at low speed. Add coconut and oats; combine well.
- Stir in nuts and floured dates with wooden spoon. Combine well.
- Drop by teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes. Allow to set on sheets about 2 minutes, then remove to rack to cool.

The result? Pretty delicious, eh!

Yum!

I would bite one! Looks good! Sorry for the run of bad luck :(. I hope things get better---you deserve it! I have followed your posts on the Dominion and the Inglelis and feel your pain!
