Dry Erase Marker Stains... HELP!!!!

My daughter keeps coming home with stains on her pants from black dry erase markers. They are driving me crazy! I can NOT get the stains out. Have tried alcohol, shout, nail polish remover, dry erase marker remover/dry erase board cleaner, and nothing has budged them. Has anyone had luck removing these stains????

Have you tried

Oxiclean in the hottest water the clothing label says? If the label says cool or cold, dissolve the Oxi in hot water, and then soak when the water is around body temperature.

I had some luck with Murphys Oil Soap, wet the stain with cool water, blot with Murphys, don't rub let sit a few minutes than flush with cool water, if you notice a difference but its still there, repeat process. Some brands of dry erase markers will come out, others not. Good Luck...Cheryl

Was the Shout that you tried the aerosol version or the liquid in the spray bottle.? The reason I ask is because I remember when Spray and Wash came out first in an aerosol can and had dry cleaning solvents in it which were really effective on certain types of petroleum or oil-based marks. Then they came out with something in a plastic bottle that should have been called Pray and wash for its limited effectiveness.

You do not mention WD40 or Goo Gone; they might be worth trying. I know the type of cleaners they sell for cleaning the dry erase boards and the cheaper ones leave traces of the markings on the white boards. You might try boosting the cleaning by using some Sodium Tripolyphosphate. You can find it in small quantities on eBay and Amazon. Add it to some warm or hot water using enough to make the water feel slippery then add detergent and soak to see if that helps. It is very color safe. You could use about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of it in the washer with your detergent and wash all of the stained garments and see how that works. If the pants are white, you might try using a product called Spray nine, usually available at auto supply stores. It has a stronger concentration of a butyl compound, the key ingredient in the white board cleaners used with dry erase markers. I would spray it on and use a toothbrush on the mark. I don't know what it would do to the color in dark color fabrics so you would have to test it in an inconspicuous spot, but it is an excellent cleaner.
