After years of being a "big girl" and having my own dryer, it just occurred to me that it would probably run more efficiently without a pile of clean clothes and other stuff stacked on top of it?

So I excavated the thing today. Of course, I cannot tell if it made a difference, but I bet you guys have some comments for me...

Mean Old Fart

I grew up in a house of piles. I made an agreement with myself never to put anything in the washer without taking it all the way back to the closet. After 58 years I'm not sure how many experiences in life I missed by staying put until the laundry is done but I still live with the fear I might become my mother if I ever say okay to it just once. The truth is likely on your side with extra insulation keeping heat from dissapating into the room.

What i have done with extra quilts and large items that have been washed but no where to go to is to place them on top of my chest freezer next to the washer and dryer. This extra insulation makes an incredible difference for the freezer. When you move the pile the lowest quilt is quite cold. So if you have to stack put it on the freezer.

I never leave anything on top of our chest freezer, it sweats. Your humidity, location of freezer in A/c or not, or in a basement I guess would make a difference. No intention to dispute anyones advice, it will not work in Tn. alr2903

Sarah, you got that right...

Actually, after reading this thread, maybe I now know of another reason why my wife insists on having a top-loading washer... can't pile stuff on top of it!

Dryers efficiency is usually determined by the amount of heated air running through the drum. Having no obstructions anywhere around the dryer to obstruct airflow will make your dryer more efficient.
