Drying Racks

was digging thru the basement today and came across several dryer drying racks, used mainly for drying sneakers, for the most part I washed them and sealed them in clear bags to keep them clean from now on.....

and I was excited with the first new Kenmore dryer I got because it had one, and of all the machines since then that have one.....I have never used them, not even once!....seems almost a waste......if I do dry sneakers, its with a regular load, which sounds like their running in the dryer, or I have, and not used also, a bag to put sneakers in, and hangs on the inside door of the dryer......

Do any of you guys have them and use them?

not sure, but was it Norge or Westinghouse that had a switch on the control panel to turn the tumble off?

Martin only for sweaters at a ex-low temp especially when needed right away.
And sneakers if i need right away.
But I tell you only about twice a year for that feature if that.

Here it is super humid, the lowest cost way for me is to just use this little dinky 6" fan and have it blow on the shoes after they say are hand washed. When aimed 1 foot away at 9pm at night; the shoes will be bone dry the next morning and it only costs a few cents and there is minimal shrinkage

Our 1964 Norge had the Stop'n'Dry lever on the control panel.  I used it for drying the 3 female household member's unmentionables back then--for some strange reason, it seemed to dry with less heat in the "stopped" mode. 

 

Did use it for drying sneakers some too.  My big door GE, the Lady Kenmore, and my Maytag Dependable Care have all come with the dryer rack.  I've used them for sneakers.  I have not found my own 3 that I've owned conduscive to drying sweaters and such.  the Norge had a unique capability of being able to have the drying rack at a high position or low position in the tub.  In the high position, could always drape all sorts of clothing over the rods like they were being placed on a line outside and blown in the breeze without the drum tumbling and messsing up sleeves or slip straps or such.  With the style nowdays, that's impossible.

DRYER DRYING RACKS

I too was excited to get a drying rack for a 1970 KM dryer that we had many years ago. But when I realized that you had to run a 6000 watt dryer to dry two shoes and it still takes a least an hour so I don't think it was ever used. The best designed drying racks I have ever seen are the ones that go in the 27" WP-KM dryers where the air is pulled directly through the clothing, these probably work a little faster. When I have wet shoes to dry I just place them in front of the refrigerators grill where the warm air blows out at the floor and they are always bone dry in the morning.

Oh yes, my '64 Norge dryer has the exclusive "stop & dry" feature, as does my '74 Wards Signature push-button dryer. Never use it, especially the Wards dryer that has a hurricane-force fan in it that blows lint all over the place!
