Drying Whites with Colors

I put this in this section since my machines are over twenty years old. I didn't see a section specifically for laundry questions. I apologize if I've misplaced it. I tried to search and that went to google. There seem to be split opinions there :/

I used to just wash and dry everything together, but my wife gets upset if I wash the whites with the colors, so I don't do that anymore lol And that's not really any problem.

The thing is, the white load is usually small, so I always dry them with another load. Dryers are inefficient with small loads, not to mention the extra time consumed. I'm sitting here right now for this very reason

But drying together is no big deal, right? Or not? Wife claims colors will transfer in the dryer. I'm not buying it lol.

So what do you guys have to say on the subject? I have no problem being proven wrong

I was taught the same thing

<span style="font-family: verdana, geneva;">Keep them separate in the washer and dryer for fear of a color transfer.  I've never tried it.  I'm kind of fussy about my laundry so I never wanted to take the chance to find out.  I work hard to keep my whites very white I don't want a dryer run to change all that.</span>

Small Dryer Loads...

I have found that throwing in a couple of Dry Towels keep the load from "bunching up " on the drum baffles.

I think it also helps the load dry faster and with less wrinkles too.

I too won't mix the two.  Whatever is a washer load is a dryer load, even if small.

Only dryer I ever had that small loads of one or two pieces sometimes was not a problem was my old Frigidaire Custom Imperial from about '68 vintage. It had a lower speed for small loads. It did a great job too!

Light colors are not a problem. Dark colors can get white lint on them.

New Invention

And there's the latest in drying technology for those small loads: a clothesline!

keep in mind as an option for the white load which is smaller.....use the timed dry cycle. Most small loads should be able to be dried in about 30 - 40 min. depending on the type of garment. If a load is "small" some dryers that operate on moisture sensing for drying  can have issues with that size load on their automatic cycles.

 

Also, drying really dark clothing with whites can lead you to having white lint on your dark clothing.
