Out of curiosity, what is the difference between the dual-action agitator and the direct drive surgilator? It says on the specs of my DD machine that I have a two-piece surgilator. Is this a more or less effective agitator than the dual action, or is it just a different design? I thought the surgilators only existed in the old belt-drive washers. Ifb I ever wanted to swap it out for a dual action version, could I do that? I have a 3.2 cubic feet tub.

Thanks,

Ryne

Good to know it can be done. It looks like an easy-enough job that I could probably even do it myself should I wish, so yay for that.

Is there something different about how the DD surgilator performs compared to the dual action agitator? My machine was manufactured in 2005, so it won't agitate with the lid open rendering me unable to view the wash action.

The lid switch on your machine probably is actuated beneath the top by one of the lid hinges.  A sort-of messy but easy way to bypass it is remove the two screws for the hinge on edge of the lid at the requisite side, loosen the hinge bracket out of the edge of the lid and manually turn it down to trigger the switch.

I've lost track of which model you now have to look up diagrams for on which side the switch is located.
