Dual Fuel Servel?

This Is Real:

"Duel-Fuel" refrigerators work on a very simple principle:

As you know, absorption refrigerators need a heat source to work, usually gas, sometimes even kerosene.

But if you put a little electric heating element in there as well, the unit can use whichever is available.

This used to be used for RV fridges.

Dual Fuel [ NOT ] Servel with An IceMaker

Very cool early 1950s Servel refrigerator, but this one is ALL ELECTRIC with a regular compressor, Servel made gas, kerosine, and regular compressor style refrigerators and never made Dual-Fuel models for home use.

The reason the freezer trim is melted is because this is a manual defrost freezer and someone used an electric defroster in it and left it on a LITTLE too long, LOL, which is too bad as I would love to get one of these early Servel IM refrigerators.

Dual Fuel Absorption refrigerators are still made and used mainly in motor homes. We have a 4 year old unit in our motor home and while it works it is very anemic if the temperature is over 90 degrees during the day, takes a full day or more to freeze trays of ice.

Gas refrigerators disappeared from home use because not only could not began to compete in capacity and performance with electrically powered but cost far MORE to operate, even Servel saw this which is why they had started making electric compressor refrigerators, the writing was on the wall.

I Think:

I have found the ad in question.

As you can see, it says "GAS or ELECTRIC," very prominently. Evidently they meant that consumers had a choice between the two, but I can see how the eBay seller could have gotten the duel-fuel idea; it's really not clear from the ad that a choice is being offered unless you read some fine print down at the bottom, under where it says "SERVEL is different":

That icemaker is why Whirlpool bought Servel. It was the first icemaker and has proven over time to be the most durable design, even if all of that float tank technology in back has not been needed for decades.
