Has anyone seen, or heard of corrosion and/or fracturing of the spiders fitted to the above Whirlpool manufactured machines?
Thank you.

Broken Spiders in WP Built Duet Sport Washers

Yes quite a few, it is not as robust as the bigger duets and therefore seems to corrode and fail sooner, much like the cheaply made Frigidaire FL washers. But in almost every case on FD or WP washers where we see these failures the washer is being used with cold water, too little and cheap ineffective detergents and No chlorine bleach and of course the washer usually stinks, LOL.

Only good news is on these WP built washers you can buy the spider without the tub for about $100.

I would hate the thought of wearing any of the mold and bacteria laden clothing that was washed in these washers, YUCK

Have you seen any of these spiders that have fractured but have no corrosion?

I understand that some of the larger WP built machines have a spider similar to that in the that in the 'Sports/He2's' have you seen any of those fractured and/or corroded?
Thank you.

Broken Spiders

I have never seen a broken spider on any brand or model washer that broke that was not pretty corroded, I an sure that it could happen but I would guess that it is pretty rare.

I looked over the information in the lawsuit from the link you posted, interesting stuff but I can see no liability on WPs part except they and many other parties are guilty of not properly instructing owners how to use an automatic washer.

When working washers every day I see machines where I know the spider will NEVER break and we go to the house next door and the same type washer is a GROSS mess of stinky mold and slime.

Unfortunately clothing manufactures, Consumer Reports, Utility companies and the washer manufacturer themselves are to blame for not instructing owners how to use a washer. If an owner wants to sue WP the broken machine should be cut apart and the pieces should be passed around to the jury and if they pass the smell test, LOL.

Broken Spiders

combo52,
I have only ever come across one thread, originating in the UK, where the poster claimed to have seen several fractured spiders with no corrosion. Said poster however did not respond to my query regarding make and model details.
As for WP liability we will let the court(s) decide should it, or similar case(s), ever go to trial.
I found it interesting because it is the first evidence that I have seen that any manufacturer has tried to do anything about it. 'It' being foul odors in this case, the corrosion detail seems to have been more of an incidental than the main cause for the suite. Incidentally I do not believe that the corrosion is all inter granular, and Dr Wilson, for the plaintiffs, did, according to the judge, make mention of 'other corrosion'.
Now from our other exchanges I know you have seen far more machines than I, but have you seen a spider of similar shape to those in the 'Sports' and He2's but in the larger Whirlpool machines? I ask because I believe one is available and they do look as though 'drainage', as Whirlpool call it, would be improved leading to less likelihood of foul odors and corrosion.
I have also seen photographs of spiders from Whirlpool machine built after 2008, which although 'different' to the older designs do not impress me with their 'drainage' arrangements, indeed I do not think they exist!
I look forward to your comments.
