My Whirlpool Duet, MOD WFW8300SW04, that is about 15 years old suddenly stopped working and displays an F-28 and locks the door. The machine was nearly finished the cycle and was spinning. The code means that there is most likely an issue with the Motor Control Unit. I found several videos explaining how to repair (replacing the MCU) myself and felt like I could do this. One thing I learned is the placement of the MCU varies on which Duet model you have. Some models have it on the front right side and others on the left rear side when you are facing the machine. Just my luck, my model has the rear mounted MCU, requiring removing my machine from the closet alcove in which it located. I also learned how to unlock the door manually, which also varies depending on the model. Either top or lower front panel accessible. Mine is located above the lower panel and was just and described. So I could remove the completed load of clothes. Checked the pump protector while I had the panel off and found about $5.37 in change and one straight pin. Without going into further disassembly details, I was able the remove the MCU with no issues. I examined the part and found no visible damage, nothing appeared burnt or shorted. Searched online and discovered prices for the replacement part varied as did shipping & handling and discounts for first time users. There were even some used MCUs for sale too for a fraction of the listed new part price. (NOn of those were the right part number for my washer!) New MCU prices varied from $261.40 to $346.80. The higher priced unit was said to be immediately available the lower price unit was not in stock and expected to be available in a week. I called local dealers that do repairs, and unfortunately none had the part in stock. Checked the site 3 days later, and said part was listed in stock and I ordered the needed part and there was no option to expedite shipping the needed part to get my washer working again. Two days later I receive an email that the part is on back order and it may arrive 7/6/2021. I checked the vendors tracking and discovered it does not work, getting an apology message. The part arrives 6/25/2021 via UPS. I installed the new MCU and reassemble the washer, reinstall the hoses, turn the water on, plug the unit into the outlet, turn it on and chose rinse & spin to test. I press start, the door locks, the timer starts, and then nothing! The door remains locked and can only shut off the machine by unplugging from the outlet. I tried running the diagnostics and get the same F-28 error code. Can anyone help me get this machine running again? Everything inside the cabinet was immaculate, looking brand new, no rust, no signs of wear, no sign of even insect pests.
