This has been going on (on and off) for years....Sometimes when I'm washing a load, it sounds like "baby birds" as the drum is rotating washing the clothes (It's that kind of a squeak sound).....It doesn't always do it, but it seems like the hotter the wash, the more I notice it.....and other times it won't do it at all. It's just that lately, I seem to notice it more than in the past. In the past, I would hear it, and maybe a year would go by that I wouldn't hear it again....then it will start back for a while. It's not overly loud - you have to be standing in the laundry room to hear it.....it's very faint and I can think of no other way to describe the sound like that.
I don't hear it during rinses or spins...how weird is that?

I mean, the machine is approaching 13 yrs old....I get the feeling that whatever it is it isn't serious. I'm just really curious what it may be. The Belt?

I always supposed that was due to thermal expansion, and caused by any somewhat lubricated parts (the points where the springs hook into the frame, bearings and their seals) or the dampers. Same as that weired slight knocking&#92ticking sound you sometimes here during high temp cycles.

I even heared such noises on the verry first wash cycle in our current AEG. The hotter, the "rougher" the berings sounded.

I have the same with mine, it happens just at the point the tub starts to move during the wash tumbles. It never occurs during spin.

I've assumed that its the belt slipping slightly and chirping, but I havent been motivated enough to spend the $90 and order a new belt so I can find out.

Mine is about 6 years old now.

Mine is direct drive.  I can push on the cabinet a bit and it squeaks.  It squeaks when it's doing a balance spin. I've heard the same noise on a couple of YouTube videos of Duets.

I have not heard anything like that:

From my FL. However I have only had the SQ for 19 Months. Have heard large machines do it in commercial settings. Usually means the belts (There's always 2 on the big guys) are on the way out. When it really gets bad it will screech when the spin motor starts. This sound will shatter your eardrums and make you hope the belts F----ng break so your cheap-ass boss has to replace them.

I had planned on

the next time I did laundry, to record with my cam hoping the sound would show up on the video....but the last 8 loads of laundry (hot washes), not a single squeak...

I don't get it!

My Affinity does something similar, but it's more of a "scritching" sound that's sometimes accompanied by a muted squeaking that actually sounds like a squeak and not baby birds.  Usually it's with a heavy load and usually it's at the start of rotation, and usually is slightly more pronounced in the counter-clockwise direction.  It's been doing this for years and it hasn't gotten any worse.  The machine is nine years old.

My MHW5100 squeaks when it spins at low speed too.
And the matching dryer cabinet will squeak with temp fluctuations.

I mean,,,,, this WP series is pretty rock solid except for the squeaky body panels.
Hope they address it.

NO

when turning the empty tub both directions, no squeaks. Smooth as silk and normal sounding.

Years ago when it first started doing this - I think (if I'm remembering correctly) it was only ONE direction of the tumble that it made the sound...but lately, it's both directions of tumble (never during spins though)

My dryer has squeaked for YEARS...but once it heats up, it stops. I'm going to check each load of laundry I do and when I hear it again, I'm going to record it and post it. I'm not sure what that would accomplish though, because no one really seems to know what it is.
