Parents had a 1970 HP that was trouble free for 9 years until pump seal went out-pump,on bottom of motor outboard of pulley, had 4-blade plastic impeller molded around bronze hub/seal face held to shaft with a setscrew-was not a terribly easy repair for a 10yo kid to replace the pump
In 1981,one of the 3 friction pads came off the clutch-new part NLA,so A"parts machine,~1965"was obtained(decently easy to find in 1981...)and parts salvaged.Next breakdown was about a month later-aluminum "sediment tube"corroded and broke apart,a piece jammed in the pump and locked the motor-in 1981 pump kits were the only replacement parts avalible for these washers.A new Kenmore was bought and I watched the Hotpoint get buried in the landfill next to a rollermatic
I have heard of internal transmission problems with these Hotpoints too.
