I don't have a specific machine in mind. But, it would most likely be a Whirlpool/Kenmore, top loader, and no newer than 1990s/early 2000s.
Even though I know very little about them, I'm drawn to the Kenmore 80 or 90 series. Preferably, the one with the four option knobs.
I also wouldn't rule out a Maytag from around the same time period.

Does it have to be a set?

My choice would be a 1961 Whirlpool Ultimatic combination. This was the second year with the high speed spin of 400 rpm (reduced from 525 in the 1960 intro) and with the re-designed vent system.

Spin speeds were reduced to eliminate a spray of water to loosen the clothes from the sides of the tub, which was then spun out again! Slowing the spin down eliminated the sticking issue without reducing extraction too much.

The change in venting improved drying efficiency. The 1960 models featured a lint remover called the Cyclone Seperator. It's function was to remove the lint from the exhaust air and force it into the drain system. It would be flushed out during the purge fill of the next wash cycle. Unfortunately this system did not work well and caused issues with lint buildup and clogging, prolonging drying times. Whirlpool had so many complaints & problems with this system is was totally redesigned with the 1961 models and a retro-fit kit was made available for field corrections to the new design (basically a standard vent-out design).

You can wash anything in this machine and it always comes out clean!

My choice for a vintage clothes washer.

(01). Belt-Drive Lady Kenmore w/Triple Dispenser, Keyboard Panel, and Vari-Flex Agitator
(02). Whirlpool/Kenmore Direct-Drive w/Dual-Action Agitator (preferably, a Catalyst)
(03). Maytag A806
(04). ANY Frigidaire w/Up-Down Agitator (Unimatic, Roller-Matic, Multi-Matic, or a 1-18)

I would love to have my Frigidaire 1-18 and matching Wide-Mouth dryer that I had back in the 70's. The thermostatic automatic drying system was much more accurate than my current LG dryer, and worked with small loads.

If I had to replace my LG with something older, I'd go back to either our old Maytag Neptune or Whirlpool Duet. I had two old GE top loaders before but our house is NEVER going back to top loaders, even my favorite top loader the Kenmore 90 Series, I would not put that in my laundry room.
