I have a KitchenAid KDS-17A that’s filling during the PreWash cycles but not filling during the Main Wash cycle.

Current is reaching the Fill Valve during PreWash, but current is not reaching the Fill Valve or the Overfill Control Switch during the Main Wash.

It seems like the Timer is to blame, but I read a that the timer rarely goes bad on these units. Any other ideas?

I reached out to Midwest Timer as suggested on another thread, asked if they would repair/recondition my timer.

KDS 17 a KitchenAid dishwasher, not filling properly

Timers definitely did go bad on these machines. There should be lots of good ones around. It was such a popular machine. I’m sure we have a number of good used ones. If you can’t find one elsewhere, we could sell you.

If you ever had a water seal leak from the main seal above the motor on this model, if it went on for a while, undetected, it would usually ruin the timer sometimes they would even catch fire on the terminal block from the seal leaks.

This model used to Singer Controls Corporation timer, while there were fairly good They sometimes would have one of the timer motors would go bad on them also.

To be sure that the fill valve is not failing that’s more common however, if you’re not getting voltage at the fill valve as you said, it’s a bad timer.
