early 70s Maytag washer / dryer pair

After looking for months for an older washer and dryer I finally turned up these and went to see them yesterday. But they look like they've been sitting outside for some time - I have two questions: First, what are the odds that I could likely resurrect these, and second, given a positive answer to the first, around how much should I offer for them? If older stuff wasn't so hard to find in this area I would be passing on these for sure (the washer is full of dirt - but at least doesn't look to be rusted from the top), but given how long it's taken me to find anything at all, I'm considering them.

The washer is BOL....probably an A106 or A107. Small capacity tub. Date would be somewhere between late 1972-1974, possibly very early '75.

 

Can't tell what the dryer is without a peek at the timer dial but it's probably a 308 or 408. Date for this would be 1976-early 1980.

 

As far as price, I'd say $50-$75.

 

These can be resurrected fairly easy but I wouldn't pour a ton of money into BOL machines. Just do the minimum to get them working well and run 'em.

Ah, let me guess.  The pictures were taken with an iPhone.  Grrrrr.

 

Given your location, outdoor laundry facilities are often the norm.  Those machines may only look bad on the outside.  Dan has provided his uber-expert advice.  If you're going to use them for daily drivers, don't expect something like a full size or larger comforter to fit in the washer.  The dryer appears to be late enough to maybe have a larger drum, and if so, it would be worth keeping if you should upgrade to a large tub, two-speed Maytag washer in the future.

personally i like the center-dial models. That to me says "classic Maytag".....the rest look like they were trying to be more like other brands.

The Maytag washer in your picture and maybe the dryer to have been sitting outside for at least 5 to 10 years maybe longer.

I don’t think I would take them for anything more than free the chance of being able to revive them is fairly small without a lot of work even the belts will be rusted to the pulleys the motor pulley will be ruined in the dryer from the moisture. Rollers will be seized in the dryer idler pulley will be seized etc.

I can’t believe someone’s even trying to sell something that old and that dirty.

You’ll be much better off finding someone selling something that still at the somewhat working with may be only a minor known flaw or Two.

Callan,  the improper reorienting of images seems to be associated with iPhones, and for whatever reason (I do not think it's browser-related), they render either sideways or upside down almost invariably when posted here.  I think there's something lost in translation between Apple and "everybody else" but maybe not with older iPhone versions. 

 

I wish they would fire the millennial who came up with whatever sort of "we know better" enhanced experience nonsense that created this problem.

Probably not the case.

I’ve posted photos on here from my iPhone before, but this time I posted it from my iPad (could be because of that, but it is unlikely)
It has to do with the website as this site predates smartphones and is running on a Linux or windows server that doesn’t support iPhones, or it could be that the photo I uploaded was 4K.
either way it hasn’t got to do with iPhones, just the way that the program processes the photo that was taken by an iPhone.

I am not having a go at this website, just trying to explain what I think is happening.

IIRC, Robert made a change site code for photo handling in an attempt to interpret data-flags in image files and correct for mis-oriented pictures, but the correction isn't always successful.  A way to handle it is pull the pics out of your phone to a computer with photo editing software, rotate them to proper orientation and save as a new file if necessary for the change to stick.  I suppose it's possible some newer photo editing software recognizes and retains the original orientation.  I use Paint Shop Pro 7 which is always able to fix the orientation.

When I took that picture I was standing on top of a stove in front of them, it was weirdly oriented to begin with. She also had 3 Kenmore dryers (but only the one washing machine and no dishwashers), and loads of stoves and fridges (all in similar bad condition from sitting outside for a long time).

Any picture I post that I took with my phone goes through the process of saving to my laptop and using editing software, but the editing happens after posting here because the picture is properly oriented in my files, but gets disoriented when included in a post.  That's when the aggravation begins because I can edit and rotate in three different directions to no avail.
