I would really like to acquire an early to mid 60's automatic washer and dryer set. Where would be the best place to start my search? I imagine ebay would be costly..

I agree that craigslist is the best source. Search all areas that you consider worth the traveling distance. You have a lot of potential to tap into where you're located.

Check here as well. Often craiglist sightings from around the country will be posted by members, just in case you took a break from browsing.

I have said MANY TIMES in the past that Craigslist is EVIL. Evil because I'm not really "looking" for anything specific, yet something shows up that I have to go after. The majority of my "collection" has been acquired through Craigslist. The photo below shows just how "evil" Craigslist truly is!

Depending on how model or year specific you want to be, it may be a bit difficult to find what you are looking for. Then again, your "dream set" could "just show up".

Good luck in your search!

You know Kevin,  I can help unburden you of some of that "evil".  Now if you were too sell me those two brightly lit Tags in the back corner,  I think you would feel so much better!

  Beautiful collection by the way!

yep, thats alotta evil there, Kevin.

I don't know, some people might value your ability to just happen into the devil's play things.

Now now Kevin - you can still walk around in your showroom. You officially have a 'problem' with you no longer can walk up to each machine and touch the panel with ease (a.k.a. Double Parking Machines!)

@Kevin
My GOODNESS! Haha, you have a great collection there! It's really hard for me to narrow it down to a certain year, model and brand because there are so many BEAUTIFUL machines to be had. But I think the set that I'd like to get would be late 50's or early 60's Maytags. Years ago when I was in jr. high school, I remember there being a Maytag washer (exactly like the one in your photo) sitting next to the dumpster. I was enamored with it. It was complete, no breaks, or dents. It had a stainless steel lint filter, and a heavy black Bakelite agitator. I was young and dumb and only took a picture of it. I COULD have got a dolly and wheeled it home as my house was only down the street...
