Honda owned into, owned part of as a joint venture,

does it really matter? Rover is now Rowe, owned by either Geely, or Shanghai automobiles, unless it's just Rowe as a stand alone.
I've forgotten more than some ever learn, yet I do not attack them for trifles.

Yes it does matter.   One car company buying or owning another is one thing, but a joint venture together does not mean one owns any part of the other.

 

Toyota and Mazda for example, agreed to form a long term partnership to share technologies, but this doesn't mean either mark owns any part of the other.   It was the same with Rover and Honda, a joint venture, not a merger or total take over.

 

It's like saying LG owns Kenmore because Sears sells LG built, Kenmore badged appliances.   It's just not the case.

It is not like saying Sears owns LG, or even Whirlpool.
Toyota and Mazda? I've never heard that before. Mazda is Toyo Koygo, a totally separate entity from Toyota. Like Subaru's parent company is or was Fiji heavy industries.
Ford and Mazda had a partnership. They still share platforms, but not marketing schemes, nor any manufacturing space.
Mazda had a close connection with Nissan, back in the 70's. Jatco, now Aisin spun off from Nissan to make automatic transmissions, and supplied Ford, and Mazda.
Who can even keep track anymore with so many acquisitions and buy outs.
Nissan owns Renault, so it is also a partnership. GM Holden was a partnership, then a wholey owned subsidiary. Ford Australia was also a pty. before an owned subsidiary.

both the Maxima and Primera were on the Gloria, or mid size platform.
The Sentra, and Pulsar were on the Sunny compact platform.
You can google both the Gloria, and the Sunny, and related models are listed as being as I listed above.

yes, but only since 2004 has the Maxima been on the FF-L platform.
There is some crossover use between car lines, and confusion. I totally forgot about the Sylvia.
The Altima used to share the Sentra platform, now it's on the FF-L with the Maxima.
As for Rowe, SAIC Automotive owns it. They also build Audi's for China's market, and they own the final Lincoln Town car tooling.
Range Rover is owned by TATA motors, along with Jaguar.

For anyone with a Land Rover product of any type from the mid '90s onwards.... If you can get hold of the 5 cylinder TDI engine, fit it!! Flexible, economical, and surprisingly powerful, you won't look back!! Very common on this side of the 'pond', a friend of mine retro-fitted one to his former V-8, and ten years later, he has still not wired up the glow plugs, as it still starts 'instantly' in all weather conditions.. As he says 'by the time you hear the starter engage, it's running'. Can't say better than that.

the fun begins :)

bought the Land Rover,'03 model,112,000 mi.,paid $2000 and it has decently new falken 18" tires and aftermarket ARB front bumper/bull bar.So far runs great with no funny noises,so will see what happens once some coolant leaks and sketchy electrical connections are fixed...If I have to get deep into the engine,can do that-I do all of my own auto repairs/rebuilds.Porsche 928 is supposed to be an "avoid"car,but mine has been dead reliable over the 12 yrs I have had it(besides minor electrical)AFAIK, no diesel Land Rovers were sold in the US in modern times-I think the first diesel cars sold in the US were Peugeot around 1974.More detailed report on the Discovery coming up once I have examined and used it more-I have 6 other vehicles in use I can rely on should the Rover prove fiddly :)

those diesel Mercedes seem to be pretty good-found one at a junkyard with 515,000 miles-'83 300D,5cyl turbodiesel.car was in rough condition but engine still ran decent :)

We looked at one once upon a time and almost bought it because the price was right. Maybe you will have one of the good ones. People warned me about buying a new VW Beetle back in 2001....but 15 years later I'm still driving it with 229,000 miles on it and going strong.
 
Considering I've had a Benz upto 350K, my mom got a Taurus to 375K, I have an explorer with almost 200K, my step dad had a Hyundai go past 300K, I have had a hyundai past 200K...
Im driving around in a beat up black Hyundai right now till i get what i want.. 92K but it has burnt wiring and some other mantinece needs, but it runs fine...

Its up to the car and the mood its in... Some are awesome, some are, well, Shite...

(And yes, a Taurus is very able to go way over 200K if you baby it)

One of the coolest shops I've seen for any make of vehicle...wonderful website with lots of great Rover rebuilds documented, although it seems many of the non Defender stories have been removed as they no longer work on Range Rovers or Discoverys.

digging in...

thanks for all the replies and links everyone-started repairing a couple coolant leaks,and once the belt was off,dicovered the waterpump bearings were bad and pump leaking a little-new pump on order,so tidying up some wayward engine electrical harnesses while I wait.This vehicle is very easy to work on so far and despite being made on the other side of the atlantic,does not seem "foreign"at all-just like working on an American vehicle :)I had to make a special tool to secure the waterpump pulley in order to unscrew the thread-on fan clutch.
 
great so far,but...

...I think it does have the loose liner problem-runs great,cooling system works fine even in recent 100+heat,but the distinct loose liner clacking can be heard at times-sounds like piston slap,but gets louder as engine nears normal operating temp unlike piston slap that quiets down once at temperature...Engine has very decent power and torque for a little 4.6L in a nearly 5000 LB vehicle :)Used the Rover on a local camping trip and limited DD usage,but need to get the engine apart and correct the liner problem before anything bad happens...
For a 2003 built vehicle,it is dated,even primitive in many ways(I don't mind this at all :)-even still has a cassette player-inop at the moment though.I think the fit,finish and workmanship are pretty good on my Land Rover,but panel gaps-though even-are from an earlier era :)
