Eatons Viking (GE Filter Flo) Dryer Motor

Hello.
I have gotten help on my Eatons Viking (Filter Flo) washer in the past, and I'm hoping for some on my dryer. The dryer is an early 80's vintage (I think), GE, private labeled for T. Eatons Co. in Canada. A couple days ago it stopped running, in that it has power and hums when the start switch is activated, but it will not turn. I suspected the issue was with the motor run windings so I opened the machine up and found the motor shaft will rotate about 1/4 inch maximum in either direction. It feels and sounds like the internal mechanism is running into something that stops rotation. There wasn't anything obstructing the blower fan, and the hum indicates to me that the motor is getting power. I am going to try to get some oil into the bearings, as I assume that after almost 40 years, they may be an issue. I may need to locate another motor and I am hoping for help. The motor is stamped with a Camco part number 111D222(0?)P4 4J702DX 6 but I can't find any kind of crossover. would anyone have any information or suggestions?

What is the dryer’s model number? That is generally the best way to look up parts. The serial number usually has the build date coded into it.

Hello Repairguy.

I've tried online searching with the model number but I haven't been able to find any reference to the machine. The model number, including what I feel may be extra bits, is ED700EW4191 JY5 76635. I tried searching specifically for this series, as well as shortened versions.

The serial number appears to be LR39478. The stampings on the plate on the dryer are not really lined up very well. The part number that I posted for the motor is stamped right into the motor housing and I thought that would be the best way to locate a motor. I triple-checked and there aren't any information stickers on the magnets, as shown in pictures of many other motors.

Yes you are correct in not being able to pull up the model number. I’m not sure why the Canadian numbers were not in the parts systems. A picture of the dryer and motor would help if possible. The square motor replacement part was WE17X32 which later went to WE17X10010. WE17X23 was a round replacement for older round motors. A pulley is also needed if yours is not removable to switch to the new motor. Pulley is WE12X41 when used with WE12X82 belt and WE12X50 when used with WE12X49 belt. Hope this helps.

Without seeing the dryer and if that serial is correct it would’ve been built in June of 1984.

Hello. Thank you for the information , it is a big help. The pulley does not seem to come off the motor shaft, so that information is really useful. From your description of the motor, I would guess that mine is the square version. I have included pictures of the dryer and the motor, as you requested. The part number for the belt that I bought in the past as a replacement is WG03F00846. Which of the belt part numbers you gave would be the correct one for my machine?

Repairguy, I hope that you get this. I realize it has been awhile since you advised which motor kit to buy. I wanted to thank you for your advice, it worked great. I did have to move the rear mounting bracket since the new motor is slightly shorter than the original, and the shaft for mounting the fan needed the flat extended for the fan to locate properly. Once this was done, the new kit wired in perfectly and the belt tensioning pulley is positioned on its arm better than with the original motor. Thank you for the help in keeping my old, but trusty, equipment running.
