I think that when a box is marked "Fragile" the shippers think "This means drop kick the box a few times along the way". UPS said it's employees are trained just to look at the address on the box and nothing else. If they do it "lowers" productivity.

I know what you all mean. I always have to be the first to leave positive feedback. It's almost like they want to see what you say first when you as the paying customer should get the first feedback. Then I have to send an E-mail practically begging for a good feedback, I finally do get it. It wouldn't be so bad except I'm trying to get more established with Ebay. My feedback score is 3 with 6 positives. 100% so far. I've inly had one seller leave me positive feedbacks upon payment without my asking. Most of them are scared to death they might not get a good mark.

My Experience

I too have been ripped-off from an E-bay seller. Paid with Paypal and simply waited for an item that never came. Little did I know that Ebay has only a 30 day complaint policy. Couldn't get my two sense in. I have also had broken items shipped and had sellers argue to the death that their item was packed to perfection. You're on your own in the Ebay racket. Seems that Ebay just runs the website and sits back and watches the fun.

BEFORE I BID........

I have had well over a thousand Ebay buys with 881 feedbacks left. (only one feedback is counted per seller, no matter how many items you get from him at one time) I ALWAYS check the seller's feedback. If there's even ONE negative, I don't buy. Only two flubs. The first was back when I first got on Ebay, 1998 I think. Bought some 78 RPM records. The lady just put them in a box and sent them. No packing at all!!! So I ended up with 78RPM chips. When I talked to her on the phone I could tell she was VERY old and cleaning out her house before she went to a nursing home. She really didn't realize how they should be packed. Anyway, she sent my money back. The only trouble that I really have is with the Canadians. They won't use PayPal since THEY have to pay a percentage, so they want to use a service where the buyer ends up overpaying for shipping, (and of course the item is overpriced allready) and then they want you to pay to PAY them! (the BUYER pays the percentage) If you pay by check, I have had items held for well over a month! So, I shy away from the cheapo Canadians. Seems every one that I have dealt with is this way. (and no, I don't want to hear about the EXCEPTIONS here, as I don't believe there are any, or if there are, I've NEVER dealt with one) The Canadians act like America is a million miles away or something.....just a bunch of malarky. Mark

I always wondered why I get checks and money orders from Canadian buyers and they never use PayPal.
I usually get a note from Canadian buyers telling me to value the item at $10.00 or something like that. I think they have to pay an import fee.
I also see a lot of auctions where they indicate they do no sell to Canadaians. Shipping to Canada IS expensive. I wonder why?

LOL cheapo Canadians.. I was feeling insulted but I'm beginning to wonder if it's true. When I put the Braun mixer on ebay I got an email a few days later from some guy in Quebec saying he was leaving shortly for their place in Florida and if I would sell it to him right away for $50? That's the same mixer I got $310 for by the end of the auction. As it turns out the girl who won the auction lives in Vancouver, doesn't have PayPal (but I said I would take money orders in the ad) so now I'm waiting for a certified cheque from her, she wasn't being cheap though, just hadn't bought on ebay b4, but obviously didn't read my pleads to "ask questions please" before bidding. When I started that was the first thing I did was set up on PayPal, in fact from now on I'm not accepting anything but, forget the money orders and shite.
Buying used vintage stuff on Ebay normally you wouldn't pay any duty or extra's for it coming into Canada, especially if the item is built in the USA or Mexico.
Now here's a new one...when I sent that last toaster oven down to the winner in Oregon I took it to the UPS counter as usual but this time the girl said that all electrical items have to have this FCC form filled out and strangely enough only if you were shipping it ground service, not air? So I asked to see their guidebook and it turned out it is only electronic items that can cause interference,, like microwaves, cordless phones, radios etc. Of course being a 19 year old girl, ducking and running, she assumed this was anything you plug in, so of course I held the line up until they got it cleared up with their office. I still don't think she understood the difference. Girls oy.

forgot something.. I had a Yamaha turntable on ebay as well but it didn't sell. Now about a week later I get an email from this guy noting it didn't sell and would I take $40 incl shipping for it.. I haven't replied yet, maybe he's Canadian. Has anyone else had this happen, I'm wondering if people do this just to get something knocked down.

Hey Pete..careful on someone writing you direcly and asking to buy something. Ebay will remove you from their site if they catch wind of it...hummm..lets see..they allow people to continue to scam people, but if something is purchased around them they quickly take action...hummmmmmm.....Ken has broken my fingers from Ebay...AMEX is going to start coming after me as well..."HI my name is Mike.......,,,,

My mom did that once. In the fall of 2002, she offered to buy something from someone via E-Mail and Ebay promptly sent her a nasty E-Mail back saying if she did it again, her name would be removed from Ebay. For this reason, she refuses to use Ebay again. Sometimes I feel like following her example. Ebay is greedy, God forbid they miss a stinking dollar, when thousands of transactions are completed everyday through Ebay.

Just got an aviation related key chain off of e-bay. Winning bid was $12.00. No shipping listed so I contacted the seller to get a final statement including shipping. Needless to say I was surprised to get a statement showing $9.00 for shipping!

I sent seller an e-mail questioning the *standard postal rate*, but recieved no response. I then tried calling them---they were closed over this weekend. Finally yesterday I got through to someone---after THREE long-distance calls----to ask if there was not some kind of mistake with the postage rate.

Nope I was told, the flat postal rate to mail a key chain is $9.00. I asked how much the key chain weighed, trying to make humour of the situation but soon realized the seller intended to stick by his guns and stick it to me. I pointed out that it did not look too good doing business like that. I also pointed out that at some point I would leave feedback----whereupon he quickly noted he too would leave feedback.

Some people are just crooked----its is just the way of the world. It is up to us to beware, but hey, you can't catch 'em all.

E-Bay has a pathetic system of checks and balances. Ever notice how little space is provided to leave feedback? Not nearly enough to tell the real story if you have a problem.
Like all other big business, they don't care----just give them your money and shut up-----and how dare you question their business practises--------kind of like our current White House occupants!

Like PeterH says------Buyer Beware!

NEW EBAY SCAM

I HAVE BEEN GETING DEMANDG EMAILS FROM SUPPOSED BUYERSTHAT THEY SENT ME PAYMENTS AND WANT THEIR ITEMS OR THEY WILL CALL POLICE. I NEVER HAD ANY ITEMS FOR SALE ON EBAYOR RECIVED ANY MONEY. THIS IS A NEW ONE

I have has to really let my fingers walk away from Ebay (Fleabay, as Laundress calls it). For some reason the past few months have been eye opening. Knitwits..hate to hear what happened to your mother on Ebay. I was worried that would happen with Pete. Ebay really needs to worry about other things and fix their system.
