Hello:

My Black & Decker MM600 mower is giving trouble again, and I'm wondering if anyone here knows anything about this brand of mower.

A little history is in order. Like most newer machines, this one has a safety switch assembly at the top of the handle. You can't run the machine without the safety lever engaged, which turns on the safety switch. This switch has a habit of burning out; we typically go through two or three a year. BUT:

We replaced a switch a week or so ago, and mowed as usual. This time, the plug on the switch box that the extension cord connects to got very hot, melting the switch box for the safety switch.

Does anyone know Black & Decker mowers well enough to tell me what in the dickens might be going on? Thanks.

I suppose--

that you've called the 1-800 number so much that you know the staff's names.

The very few times I have had a mechanical device that has needed the same sort of repair more than twice, I have gotten rid of it.

Good luck with it, whatever you do.

Wow

Thats alot to go wrong with a mower. It sounds unsafe. If you want an eletric one go with a Neuton. It's electric and cordless. Best mower I have ever had!

Good luck with the B&D and seriousle consider getting rid of it.

Yesterday I gave moms lawn this seasons inaugural mowing with her new Homelite cordless electric and I was impressed. It did a very nice job. BUT it's brand new so how it fans out over the long term is unknown. It's heavier than the Neuton and the B&D cordless mowers because it has a steel deck. Within 2 minutes of me mowing I had people walking by stopping to check it out and how quiet it is.

A Little More Info:

Guys:

I need to fix this mower. The grass is getting high and unsightly as I try to get this situation addressed, and buying a new one cannot happen quickly enough- electric mowers in my price range are "Out of Stock" in my area at Wal Mart, KMart, Home Depot, Sears, and Lowe's. "We kin order that fer ya," is the response I get at every turn, which translates to, "Let us hit your VISA now and we'll get your lawn mower to you when we damn well get around to it."

So, any advice on fixing what I have- faulty though it is- would be most gratefully received.

As funny as this sounds...

When I'm looking for stuff like that, sometimes I get lucky looking at the thrift stores, Salvation Army, places like that... Over here, I see electric mowers all the time. You might find either a beater unit or a donor...

Steve:

Thanks very much. It's probably too late to get in touch with them before Monday, but I'll give them a call to see if they work on electrics. Some mower places do, some don't.
