Hi guys.

I have an electric water heater built in above the ceiling in my master bathroom.

It was installed during my building's construction, but it's barely used (less than a month/year due to our very hot weather.

This afternoon, after 14 winters complaining about the poor heating, the concierge just told me that there's an adjustable thermostat. Ok, i got my cell phone and took pictures in the tiny hole i have in the ceiling and found the thermostat (that was set to the minimum).

I also found a valve with a hose conector on the lowest part of the tank. For my susprise there's also a safety pressure valve with a thin hose connected to it.

I've seen many times here at AW that water tanks must be empied after every period (once a year maybe?) to remove debris. Do I need to do that on my heater too?

The concierge told me that this kind of heater is self cleaning as the tank is horizontal and the water turbulence is enough to shake the debris (For some reason i didn't believe him)

What would you do if you were me? 14 years and never had a problem with it, the hot water is barely used (the heater is turned on 3/4 weeks per year and even the hot water pipes are almost never used (but every year I remember to flush water enough to fill the tub twice before turning on the heater). Should I drain it or not?

Pictures in a few minutes, as soon as I download them from my Android.
