Electrolux Aqualux EW1200i intergrated washer/dryer

Hi guys,

My friends have and Electrolux Aqualux EW1200i washer/dryer. They have asked for my help in sorting a problem with it, but I'm not too sure what's wrong.

It fills, washes, tumbles, drains, heats and dries just fine, timer still runs and all noises it makes sound perfectly normal.

However, when it comes to go into spin, it merely accelerates into spin for a couple of seconds before stopping and sitting with the pump running and not turning until the timer clicks round and it switches off.

As said before, it still tumbles and distrubutes just fine, and it drains all the water out, so I'm not sure what the problem could be, does anyone have any ideas?

Attached is a picture which is not of the machine in question, but which is the same model.

The machine is approximately 7/8 years old I believe.

Any help is much appreciated, otherwise they will have to get a new machine which they cannot really afford.

I've had a similar problem in the past

Turned out to be a blocked pressure chamber on my Hoover w/d years ago

Engineer called round, changed brushes etc as he thought that was the cause.

Tried it on a spin, still no joy. Just distributed, attempted to accelerate and would fail miserably..

He pulled the drain hose out, gave a sharp blow down it, until he heard a click, and it was away!

Very odd, but it might be worth a try if the hose is accessible

That SURE is older than 7/8 years... try double that age or even three times as much!

As said, try checking the carbon brushes!

That sounds most plausible! I'll give that a try.

Gabrielle, the apartment building they live in was only built in 2005 and all the kitchens and appliances were installed then, so it cannot be more than 8 years old, the instruction book is copyright 2001 so I assume this is when the model was introduced.

If you can find the serial number (usually on the inside of the door), I'll be able to date it for you. They were certainly one of the last mechanical timer machines available from Electrolux/Zanussi.

Actually, you could still buy these as late as 2011. Focus DIY stores used to included these with their kitchens, although the later ones had the slightly newer style door, like the one in the link

Gosh! That look totally got me off way! It's so outdated, even for the early 90s...

that is my nanny's old machine in that picture,i took that photo about two months before it died of bearing failure, she bought it in 2001 and we said goodbye in 2011, sounds like it may be the timer or an issue with the pump.

That's a classic case of brush wear. Fixed a machine that did this, it would distribute then ramp into spin but cut out as soon as it ramps up, the module senses it so it cuts out the motor completely until the timer advances to the off position. I'd highly recommend you to replace them because this is an older model and it is good to keep these going while you can.
