I have a cat and upholstered furniture. In the interest of keeping my furniture clean and not setting of my mother's cat allergy, I would like to get a furniture powernozzle for my Electrolux vacuums. I have read about attachments called the Sidekick and Sidekick II. What is the difference between these items? Does one perform better than the other or does it really matter?

I trust there are folks here more knowledgeable than me.

Dave:

The Sidekick was the original Electrolux handheld PN; it was made at least through the later '80s, when the Marquise became the last of the true American-made metal-bodied Luxes.

The Sidekick II is a redesigned version. I have not actually handled one, so all I can tell you is to check the wand diameter it uses and the pin spacing on the electrical connection, because new Aeruses use a larger wand system than Luxes did.

I would go with the Sidekick myself; they're cheap on eBay and even cheaper in thrifts. Some time back, I was able to gift one to a friend here locally; I found it at St. Vinnie's for a buck.

One more thing - they are All That. My cat friend, Marty, is a grey-and-black striped tabby tom. His favorite place in the entire house is the top of a burgundy velour-covered ottoman - and velour is the hair trap of all time. The Sidekick makes short, easy work of getting it hair-free. Without the Sidekick, the Lux can't even budge most of the hair.

I got two words for you, friend: GET. ONE. :)[this post was last edited: 7/13/2014-20:55]

The original Sidekick is designed for the older style pistol grip Lux hoses i.e. where the end of the nozzle fits into the wand. The Sidekick II is for the newer plastic gas pump style handle where the end of the nozzle fits over the plastic wand. I have both and they work equally well. I have 2 cats and use them on the stairs, furniture and in tight quarters where the regular power nozzle will not squeeze into.

Yes - the original Sidekick is the one that fits those machines.

Let us know how you like it! I think you're going to be very pleased.

P.S.: If your G has the PN power cord (clipped to a non-electrified hose), the Sidekick still works just fine. Just plug the PN cord into the Sidekick.

other than which wands/grip they fit, they are virtually identical. Same brushroll, same motor and same internal airflow channel. There are marginal differences in the belt length, 1/8 of an inch. The latest version, the SideKick III fits only the Platinum and Guardian Ultra wands.
