Dave:
The Sidekick was the original Electrolux handheld PN; it was made at least through the later '80s, when the Marquise became the last of the true American-made metal-bodied Luxes.
The Sidekick II is a redesigned version. I have not actually handled one, so all I can tell you is to check the wand diameter it uses and the pin spacing on the electrical connection, because new Aeruses use a larger wand system than Luxes did.
I would go with the Sidekick myself; they're cheap on eBay and even cheaper in thrifts. Some time back, I was able to gift one to a friend here locally; I found it at St. Vinnie's for a buck.
One more thing - they
are All That. My cat friend, Marty, is a grey-and-black striped tabby tom. His favorite place in the entire house is the top of a burgundy velour-covered ottoman - and velour is the hair trap of all time. The Sidekick makes short, easy work of getting it hair-free. Without the Sidekick, the Lux can't even budge most of the hair.
I got two words for you, friend: GET. ONE.
