OK vac enthusiasts. What do we think of this machine?

IMHO It is sad that Electrolux (USA) sold the name "back" to Electrolux (Sweden) and that they are charging Electrolux (USA) prices for what I think are relatively unremarkable vacuum cleamers.

Tell me please all about the features and drawbacks.
Austin, Jeff, dial-a-matic, others, speak!

ATTENTION VACUUM-CLUB SITE MEMBERS, please keep it "light"

Skip has one of these Intensity machines; if I remember correctly, I think he had a few problems with it. He'd definitely know more than I do. I saw one at Lowe's that I closely examined and thought it was rather cheaply made for the price.

Now if it's a REAL Electrolux you're looking for, look no further!

I saw one of these a few weeks ago at Sears when I went in to get some vac bags. I asked the salesman "what is that??" He gave me a little demo - although it is an interesting design in that it is different, I don't think I would pay that price for it.

It has a dirt bag the size you would find on a battery-powered dustbuster. It would have to be emptied after every use. And no hose/attachments. It touts 50% more power, so it will be interesting to see how it does in CR tests. More "power" doesn't always mean better cleaning.

The return of the Convert-O-vac

Steve thats a variation on the old Westinghouse Convert-o-vac from the late 60's.
Pricey for what it is, and not that great a cleaner.
These days the Electrolux name is really just a Eureka, little more than that, with a huge price tag.
There are way better choices in my opinion.

Hmm an anorexic Hoover Z. Part of why I like uprights is it eliminates having to bend over much of the time and here you have to bend over to pull up the handle. It looks interesting though and sort of like a mega Eureka stick vac from the front. Those new Aerus vacs are nice but ever so pricey. I still think they're gonna go under and Elux will buy the remains.

Elux:

"Those new Aerus vacs are nice but ever so pricey. I still think they're gonna go under and Elux will buy the remains."

I think Aerus's best hope at this point is to drop the branded stores and the direct marketing and get the product into regular stores. Unlike the heyday of American Electrolux, there is some very worthy competition to the company's two major brands, Aerus and TriStar. Consumers know Miele as a quality name, for instance.

Mass marketing through better stores (as Miele does) and some real consumer outreach in the form of ads (when was the last time you saw an ad or commercial for Aerus or TriStar?) would probably work miracles. TriStar is a particular problem; the home-demonstration sales tactics have really tarnished the image of the product, due to Internet consumer complaints.

Oh, and get RID of that damn wishy-washy blue colour for Aerus products. Ugly, dated, cheap-looking. If the Lux Guardian came in titanium and black, it would be a whole different machine visually, more powerful-looking and expensive in appearance. I wouldn't want to spend that kind of money for something that looks like a half-melted Kenmore from the late 1960's.

Also on Aerus machines-get rid of that HORRIBLE Guardian design and go back to the roots-The Guardian sounds like you are trying to vacuum with a B-52 revving for takeoff!Bring back the OLDER Quieter designs.Bring back the METAL designs-now THAT would be worth the high prices usually charged for Aerus products. The current Aerus products are nothing more than overpriced "Department store" vacs.

Metal Elux/Aerus

Yeah, tolivac, I agree. Look at the success Hoover is having with the reissue of the Connie, a design over fifty years old (doesn't hurt that it was by Henry Dreyfuss).

A reissue of the Hospital G with a redesigned housing for the afterfilter, capable of accepting a HEPA filter, would be a very good start.

And you're right about the Guardian's screech. Oh, and uh- maybe some METAL wands instead of plastic? I mean, since Aerus wants to charge us over two grand for the thing...

My feelings on all of the current Eurekalux vacuums is that they were built for performance, not durability or long life. These vacuums will clean excellently when they are new, but within months (I'm not exagerating here) parts begin to break on them and the performace begins to drop. I am still amazed by the short life of some of these Eurekalux vacuums, esp. for the prices they are charging.

For me my love of Electrolux vacs is partially due to the way the bag fits into the canister snugly and that there is no hinged "collar" that the top of the bag has to sit in, and has to be aligned correctly. Sometines the bag slips and the mess goes everywhere. *UGH*

I did find the inexpensive Eureka Mighty Mite with a similar bag / bag-holder configuration. It was a royal plum/mauve color and I snatched it up as a utlity vac for car/attic/garage/workshop.

Steve

I was impressed with the video that electrolux has on there site and in fact that's why I bought it but I will say it does come with flaws for sure, It's not worth the 235.00 that i paid for it at all. It has no on board tools at all and the handle release is not working right on mine at all, one of the crossmembers under the brush roll has already broken off mine. As mention before very cheaply made, In my opinion the Miele Art is worth getting over the intensify. at least the miele art has on board tools and is very well made. In fact my miele art I bought brand new in the box and paid the same for it as the intensify. the only thing about these uprights they have very small bags.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT?????

Toggles,
are you implying that vac-club members can't keep things light???? :-)

Vacuum cleaner collecting- a hobby that really sucks. (ROFL)

I did not infer it nor imply it, I said it outright! *LOL* (just kidding!)

Sometimes passions regarding vacs can get hot and people tend to tear each-other's opinions to shreds. IMHO, it's OK for differences in opinion, no need for some to get cruel, nasty, personal or attack/assualt characters, or otherwise.

Good to hear from ya sir!
