Electrolux Tri Vacs

Here's the second one I found the other day, the tan one on the left. They're nice stick vacs, sturdy, use little paper bags that are easy to change out and have plenty of suction albeit like most stick vacs a bit noisy. The metal pole handle slides out so you can use it as a handvac, I'm not sure why they call it Tri Vac though? Is there a 3rd way of using it, no comments from the peanut gallery please!!!!
Also, anyone know what these sold for new or if they're still available?

I have never seen these 'Lux "broom" type vacs.Haven't seen any at the Lux dealership here.Were these machines marketed to Canada only?

I looked inside the bag compartment and it says Made in Canada by Electrolux Canada, Brockville Ontario. geeze I hope the bags are still available, I'll have to check that out..

On fan first vacs-yes.

Yes, they are fan first machines, same bag design as the C bag with mutliple layers and the plastic seal. Fairly decent little cleaners. I bought mine in a local department store that has now gone out of busisness. If you have a lot of bare floors they work well the with bare floor tool of an Electrolux canister. The single tool that came out in the later years works best as it is plastic and lighter in wieght. In the handle is a plastic rod to clean out the fill tube if it clogs. The handle also removes to be used as a hand held cleaner.

I beleive the store where I purchased mine was called Zayres or something similar. If memory serves me correctly I think Target may have carried them as well. I think I paid less than 25.00 on close out price.. in fact it may have been 15.99

I have the tan tri vac and i found it here in the desert. We have alot of Canadians who come here for the winter so i assume that's how it made it's way here. It is fan first as the dirt is pushed into the bag. They were only made in Canada and i believe the one i have was made around the mid to late 70's. You can use a regular Electrolux flip tool so you can clean carpets and floors. I figured with the handle off it could be used as a hand vac but i tried that and it was awkward to hold. I do have a cheaper version of a Panasonic upright hose that fits perfectly over the end and it can be used as a mini tank cleaner. I think thats where the "tri" in Tri vac come into play but i know of no attachments ever being made for these machines. Does Electrolux still make vacuums in Canada? In the US they are now Eureka vacuums and Electrolux as we know it is now called Aerus.

The old Electrolux is Aerus here as well. I stopped in at an Aerus dealer today and he had bags.. said they were discontinued awhile back but they got a new supplier "in China" so I'm happy at least I got some replacement bags.

So I'm looking at the new Aerus vacs which are what our old Electroluxes were, boy are they expensive $1200 up to $1900 for the canisters.. yet you can buy the Aerus central vac system for $1000 minus a special coupon making it $800. The guy running the dealership says he doesn't sell many of the vacs, it's all central vacs now people want.

The "Tri-Vac" sounds interesting-will keep my eyes open for one-so far I have run into an older METAL Regina ElectricBroom.Does a pretty good job-The latest "broom" vac I have is a Riccar "SuperLite"It has a pretty blue body and a "squeegie" like an Oreck so it can work on hard floors-less expenesive--prettier-and more effective.The vintage broom vacs are just more fun.they seemed most popular in the 60's-to the 70's.Kitchen "crumb vacs "is another term for them.I would think the Oreck could be considered a broom vac of sorts-just a lot more expensive!I miss the Royal Dirt Devil Red "Broom vac" was not a bad little machine-I gav e mine away-should have kept it.

Sold for $100.00 door to door back in 1989 or so (the gray one)at the same time the Olympia Canister model with the P.N.5 first came out.

The motor container on those...I guess you call it that...looks similar to a miniaturized version of the popular Olympia tank vacuums, just turned vertical, and connected to a nozzle! Neat little vacuums. I didn't even know anything existed like this. Especially since I'm an electrolux nut
