Friedrich A/C's

This is one of the MAJOR brand A/C's in the south. I saw them all over the south when I was in college in the 70's. Very common. They are or were built like tanks. Up north all we had were Fridigaire, Westinghouse, Philco and GE, with a few Admirals & Amanas thrown in.
I've seen Freidrich window units of all sizes and capacities, and I think I even saw a outside condenser for a central unit at least once.
There must be a reason that the Freidrich models were so popular, I always figured because they were good at dehumidiification and cooling in the terribly hot conditions of the south.

Useless Fact, Part II:

i once worked as a makeup artist/photo assistant, and we once used the old Commerce St factory as a photo setting for that industrial/decay look. the factory had long been abandoned. i spent a good 15 mins just reading the writings on the walls of the mens toilets. the factory had looong been shuttered, so the dirt and debris was a good 20 years old. we were there for a whole day. consumer reports had always given Friedrich air conditioners top marks, for reliability and efficiency. this link is to the history part of their website.

unused for decades...

you mean the factory location i was talking about? i WISH! this place was but a husk, flotsam and jetsam. no electricity!
