I loved this story and here in the Detroit area, people are buying Element tv's with great pride.

For years, my parents only purchased Curtis Mathes televisions, which were made in Texas. My mom loved the beautiful cabinets they came in, and my dad liked the 5-year picture tube warranty (the TV was on all day long every day, and we usually burned out a picture tube in four years - the CM folks would replace it free of charge).

This goes to show you can build things here and still make money...

Hooray for Element and Detroit. We too had beautiful Curtis-Mathes AV equipment when I was growing up. They did not outsource their cabinet making.

saw this online last night.

I thought it was wonderful!

In 1998 I started saying 'Buy US manufactured products!'

Finally, it is mainstream. It's only weird folks like those of us who like stuff like we discuss here that say that, or it was only us.

They are actually built in a Detroit suburb, aren't they?

Hopefully they will succeed. Has anyone seen one working yet? And I wonder what the pricing will be.

I see they are using JBL speakers for the sound. That sounds pretty good.

I'm very glad for Detroit. Even though the plant itself is only about 100 people and the components are mostly Asian, if this looks good on the shelf and says "Made in USA" it should sell. Plus we get another ~100 jobs in logistics outside the plant and even more if the boxes are made here.

U.S. TVs

i saw that on the news too, indeed mosty asian parts but they said u.s content may
increase as this operation gets rolling. The last TV i bought that i would consider
a truly U.S. TV was a 1991 GE branded RCA( though IIRC,GE tv /RCA french owned
since '86...)plenty of asian parts on the circuit board,i'd say at least 75% U.S.
made including the tube, cabimet, cord, flyback and P.C. board.2001 panasonic TV i
bought new said "assembled in USA";RCA tube and the cabinet were US,but whole
chassis was from singapore.set lasted almost exactly 9yrs,replaced with a sanyo
42"LCD-assembled in mexico.
