Are email addresses that are btinternet.com and virgin.net more secure than say hotmail or gmail?

Just notice a lot of people use @btinternet.com more than web based email.

The most secure e-mail out there is proton.ch. It's a new start up out of Switzerland. I'm on the list waiting for a userid.

It's a joint venture between MIT and a couple of guys living in Switzerland. The servers are over there. The way it works is that the e-mail is encrypted at your PC while being sent and is not unencrypted until you open it to read it at the recipients side. So while the e-mail is sitting on your hard disk it's always encrypted.

For a basic userid it's free. If you want 1GB storage space there is a small charge. The company asked for contributions totaling $100K to get started and to date they have received over $250K in donations.

protonmail.ch claims that their system is so secure not even the NSA can figure out how to open your e-mail.

See the link for more info.

proton...

I did sign up for proton.ch, but I have mixed feelings.  I do nothing of any importance with my email, the most I do any more is send links to things people might be interested in.  I don’t even send notes or such as I used to do years ago, now 99% of my email is basically junk that gets tossed.  Ebay alerts, political fund raisers, ads from new egg, forum notifications an on and on.

It used to be it would cost to call people out of the area, now it's free so if I need something I just call, or text.  Email is pretty much worthless to me.
