WARNING!! DO NOT GOOGLE JANE RUSSELL

There is a picture there that should never have been released to the public. Remember her as she was. This is worse than Bette Davis toward the end, after the stroke when she could not quit the camera.

The NYT obit is better. It tells how her kids forced her into rehab at 79 and how she became a conservative Christian. Her own quote describing herself is most picturesque.

Quote from NYT obit:

“These days I’m a teetotal, mean-spirited, right-wing, narrow-minded, conservative Christian bigot, but not a racist,” she told an Australian newspaper, The Daily Mail, in 2003. Bigotry, she added, “just means you don’t have an open mind.”

The one and only time I remember seeing this gorgeous, voluptuous woman was on t.v. when Playtex had her introducing their "18 Hour Bra". I never saw her before nor had I ever seen her after. I had assumed she had already past away. What a shame she was never as well known as Rosolin. The woman who played a nun in "The Trouble with Angels" and Aunty Mame in the classic movie of that name.I always wondered if they were related.

For Us "Full Figured Gals"

Jane Russell was the spokeswoman for Playtex's line of "18 Hour" bra's and girdles. Contraptions meant to contain anything from svelte female figure to the junoesque.

Nice girls didn't giggle so went the phrase and there was a time when no decent female past puberty went out without her thighs and derriere.

Have always felt that Marilyn Monroe entered legend forever "young" and beautiful because of her untimely and tragic death. Of all the "full figured" actresses of the era (Mamie Van Doren, Jane Russell, etc) the only one anyone really remembers and or speaks of is MM.

Regarding Miss Russell's heirs, are these her natural children?

Not trying to speak ill of the dead or anything, but recall seeing an interview with JM from awhile back where she spoke of being unable to have children. Apparently when a young girl, JM had a "back alley" abortion that tore up her inside. Indeed a physican treating her afterwards for the effects asked "what butcher did this to you"?

All in all JM was a classy dame (or should I say broad *LOL*), they just don't make em like that anymore. Well not at least without a trip to a plastic surgeon.

Funny thing is by today's standards, both MM and JM would be considered "fat". As probably Raquel Welch the the rest of the "full figured" lot!

I was just thinking about her the other day, I thought she had already passed.  I loved her and Marilyn in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
