...errrr did English Electric do a model 1600..? Wouldn't this have been a bit close to Hotpoint, as they only launched there's in about 1969..?

wouldn't recommend trying to run it unless you have it checked over first, perished internal hoses and/or wiring may cause damage to the machine - or yourself!
It makes sense that this machine could well be a rebadged Hotpoint, we know they rebadged appliances for other export markets, and I wonder if the EE name was chosen as it was better recognised internationally, due to their other, larger products - railway locos, planes, guided weapons(!) etc. Or maybe it was a badge-engineered version to replace the Reversomatics. Who knows!
Seeing the pictures should clear matters up, almost hope it isn't a 1600, cos it'd be quite a trek to collect the old girl if someone wants it...

Simon is right, this could well be a re-brand of the 1600, certainly 1970 seems the correct era. The English Electric moniker is odd though - for licence reasons, 1960s AEI-Hotpoints were exported as Gala, though this was dropped for Ireland at least in the 70s. Perhaps this changed when AEI was subsumed by GEC?
If this is a rebadged Hotpoint 1600, the English Electric name was probably used because the Hotpoint licence didn't cover Greece (assuming this machine actually originated there) and Gala was probably in use for something else (or translated as something unmentionable in Greek...). Even as an export, the machine should say British Domestic Appliances on the rating plate for the 1970s

Well actually this is more genuine than it appears. The same person who posted this has in fact emailed me very formally but unfortunately he hasn't got back to me... He must have seen myself posting about the 1600 and contacted me. I'm quite surprised to see that nobody else got an email from him. I would really love to get this but I'd need a cheap way to get it delivered to the green isle...
