Hi I Have an english electric Liberator Automatic washing machine in my basement which has been sat there for years...I am based in Manchester UK...if any one would like to make me an offer I will sell or put on ebay if not....

Rare find...hopefully someone can save it !! Be prepared for a weighty removal though..I have one and they weigh a ton.

It would take €€€€'s to ship that beauty over to me in Ireland, let alone buy it. Somebody get it before it goes on Ebay! Looks restorable. I would have the time to do that too but an EE will be found here sometime. My Gran worked at a big manor and they must have had the first FL in Co. Donegal.

doh!

i thought these to be obsolete so i sold the matching dryer in 2009 ! however the wires had vulcanised amongst other problems so it was not an easy repair job if the new owner chose to restore it. I wonder if this is connected to water? the way its sat it looks sort of plumbed in!

 

I would love it, but only to save it from scrap,  but as space is limited and time is short  i look forward to someone else saving it and perhaps  seeing its rescue and seeing wash again one day!

This is the very first automatic washer I encountered at a friend of my mothers. The machine stood taller than I did at the time so was pretty young but already fascinated! I remember going straight up to it and fiddling with the controls and the owner told me that i was allowed to play with it but ONLY the red 'roller' which I beleive had programme instructions on it although I don't beleive it was anything more than informational. Can anyone confirm that?

That is my understanding too.

My Aunt Nancy had one and it was the first time I had ever seen an automaic machine in the flesh and she let my play with the red roller too. As a treat she did turn it on to the spin only cycle so I could see what it was like.

Hi all,the rotary thumbwheel did alter the the programe when turned,all it did was operate 1 microswitch which canceld the spin part of the cycle for the man made and wool fabric cycles ,if i recall correctly ,but its been a long time since ive seen one.They were only cold fill automaticaly and if the user wanted to fill with hot water they came with a red rubber hose connected to back of machine with a tap adaptor on the end which had to be fixed to sink hot water tap and filled manualy.Transmision is as 3 belt westinghouse so probably no problem there is no gearbox to go wrong .Very simple electrics as just 1 solenoid for drain pump and 1 for spin.The heater is easy to access as there is a rectangular removable plastic panel screwed into the wall of the inner drum. Overall a very strong quiet machine and mechanicaly wouldnt be a problem .The only problem would be perrished rubber parts,e.g. no modern day door seal would fit, as the drum fixing lip faces inwards and was fixed by garter ring inside the tub.For its age though this looks to be in prety good shape so i hope somebody saves it .Regards Nige.
