Environmentally Friendly Dishwasher Detergent

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

It's been my experience that anything with "Eco" or "Green" on the box just sucks when it comes to cleaning performance.

I'm not sure if the recipe in the article will work, but IMHO I have some serious doubts that it would outperform something like Cascade.

I'm a little iffy about using Borax on dishes..

That makes me laugh!
It will only work for pre-rinsed dishes... if ever!
Don't think it will shift any stain like dried on starchy foods or milk or burned stuff! And if something comes clean it's merit of the dishwasher alone (like when I forgot adding the detergent and everything LOOKED clean but in fact the grease was simply smeared around...)
Plus mixing an acid (citric acid) and a base (sodium carbonate) will effectively neutralize both of them rendering the concoction useless!

SO CALLED ENVIRONMENTAL DW DETERGENTS

We have made THOUSANDS of dollars running service calls after people have used this nearly useless and destructive crap in thier dishwashers after just a few months. Luckily in many cases the DW can be saved, but in many cases the machine is so clogged that it is easier to replace the DW. When you consider how much water is wasted either by pre-rinsing and or rewashing dishes and the number of DWs that were trashed early I cannot imagine how these expensive to produce and overpriced detergents have done any good at all to the planet.

I remember one customer that had a three year old TOL KA tall tub machine complaining about the spots and streaks on her glassware. I completely checked over the machine and nothing was wrong, I of corse suggested using a good detergent or getting a water softener for her home but she won't consider it. So then I hear from her again about 6 months later and she tells me that she bought another $1000.00 KA DW and it was doing the same with her glasses and asked if I could fix it. I asked her what she did with the three year old machine and she said they took it away. What a waste as at least 95% of all old Built-in DWs just get scrapped.

Nothing seems to work, alas..

though I have some stpp on order (or is it sttp? whatever). So we'll see what happens when that arrives.

1/2 tsp per load?
