Actually is that an ironer? Cant figure what else it might be but I see only one roller.

It's an ironer.  Looks like one of the 'portable' models that did not have the larger base cabinet.  

 

The Frigidaire fridge looks sweet - the folks had one like that (pink interior and all) at our first country house in the Eastern Townships!

It's the mate to my d1000! I've been hunting for it! I called the estate company. They are willing to let me buy it, but can't hold it long. Can anyone out there pick it up and hold it for me while I arrange transport?

Speed Queen Ironer

Is a portable that could be used on stand (as shown) or set up on a table or other stable surface. Yes, these sort of ironers where supposed to be the answer for space challenged housewives (or anyone else) that wanted one of the things.

Interesting thing is by then Speed Queen ironers were put out by American Ironing Machine company who also owned/made Simplex ironers. If you look at Simplex and Speed Queen ironers for home use they are usually the same styles with perhaps minor changes.

Back to this sale; one could do a lot of damage (spy an ironing board among other things), but am not flying or driving out to Chi-Town area this week.

Will, Glad you were able to get it. The way members help one another here is one of the things that make this site so great.

On a different note: How did an ironer with only one roller do an adequate job of pressing items? Would think you need two rollers to press the items between to remove wrinkles.

Ironers pressed things against a hot plate that contacted the roller. The plate acted as the iron, the roller as the board.

Am so very happy that I was able to spot it actually... was fast flipping thru pics looking for tell-tale signs of vacuum cleaners. One was actually searching for vintage vacuums in and around Chicago, as do have a few contacts that pick up the vintage ones for me, or they keep them for their collection(s).

Just couldn't believe my eyes when not only did I see a Westinghouse Laundromat, but the very beautiful and rare L-1000. Rubbed my eyes and all, so proceeded to immediately post it up here, knowing that someone would move a mountain, to obtain it. The fact that it is completing a set, just warms my heart. So few of these ahead of their time Laundromats made it to today...

As my screen name attests, absolutely adore these 1959 Program Computers. Hopefully it will be made usable again in short order. Ones only thought was, that hopefully all the pieces are still there to reassemble the push-button tilting control panel.

Domestic rotary ironers with only one roll

Having one roller was and still is the main weakness of domestic rotary irons/mangles. If items being sent through are too moist or whatever it can take one or more passes to produce good results.

This is also an big issue with American ironers limited to 120v/15amp service which along with UL safety requirements for all domestic ironing equipment

Will, I'm thrilled for you beyond ability to express.  The washer gods smiled down on you and a matched set emerged.  I think Jetcone has also called it washer karma.  Get the dryer and the washer will show up.  So there's also hope some day a matching turquoise washer will show up for Joe's recently acquired WP dryer.

Yes! It's so exciting. It's one of two I've been looking for a mate for. Who would have thought an L-1000 would show up before a 1962 Kenmore 70 series washer? I hope Joe gets his matching whirlpool too!

I'm running out of dream appliances at this rate!
1) 1962 Kenmore 70 series washer
2) early built in tappan/westy microwave
3) KDS-14
4) Blackstone Ironer
5) Hotpoint "Tenderly" Range (and maybe a matching fridge if I find it)
6) 1957 Lady Kenmore pair...

However, my holy grail is now found! Now to get these 1000's working!

Funny thing was, I was looking these up about a week ago, such a cool cool design. Cant wait to see what you will do with them!
